Any comments on the new Most album "Most Most"? There was a pretty ambigious review in the new issue of Wire. Actually, how is Most anyway? Is it really punk? zorn black metal band

the other day I was in Utopia Records (big metal/music store in Sydney, Oz) & found the marker (letter/name markers: "Spears, Britney", "Hendrix, Jimi" etc...) "Zorn". as I saw it I was surprised the size of the section, only 1 CD (the store did have a decent selection of JZ in the past). as I got closer & picked up the CD, it was a Black Metal band's CD. the band is called Zorn!! haha! funny! they were complete with the loser make-up & swords & pentagrams etc!!! does Zorn mean anything 'evil' or just 'sounds cool'??? :) anyone else seen this CD?? i'll get on the web & see what i can find. here we go! :) haha! http://www.zorn.darkmetal.net/ http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=6405 they're German. Hello, I am a grad student doing research on experimental music and copyright law. I am particularly interested in learning more about experimental musicians whose work comments upon or challenges the assumptions or limitations of the law, as well as about how listeners and fans of contemporary/ experimental musics feel that current legislation, like the DMCA, has impacted (and continue to impact) the production and outlets for the creative genres you find artistically compelling. I have a few more concrete questions on these issues that I could forward to anyone interested. Nevertheless, feedback will be greatly appreciated and seriously considered. Jerm > I probably listen to more records without catchy riffs than most on this list. I'm not trying to prove my bona fides or anything, but I think I can tell a good improv record from a bad one, or at least one that appeals to my aesthetic. "Death Ambient" is one of my favourites, and I don't dislike "Absinthe" or "Pranzo" either. Any of these three would be infinitely more sensible to buy for the curious listener rather than springing big bucks on "Hemopheliac". If you want something to "stir your curiosity and confuse your eardrums" I suggest you investigate the Erstwhile catalogue. Happy to give some recommendations if you like. Cremaster 2 is da bomb! The scene with Dave Lombardo and the singer of Morbid Angel is absolutely incredible. I've only scene this cycle and the first one (which was extremely painful to sit through). The Early Zorn & Hemophiliac

Does anybody on the list like the earlier Zorn albums? I'm thinking of (in print): First Recordings Parachute Years Classic Guide to Strategy Locus Solus Ganryu Island While I'm a fan because of his Masada, Naked City, chamber works etc. material, his early works are really fascinating to me. His usage of reed instruments was more sound oriented, sort of based off rhythmic patterns and I find it very interesting to listen to although perhaps not melodic like Masada or aggressive like Spy Vs. Spy or Naked City. That sort of playing crops up in Masada sometimes like on Katzatz, Sheloshim (I think, don't have Gimel handy) or other pieces which feature his extended techniques. Does anybody know of other reed players that work in a similar style? I think it has its own unique kind of "stately beauty" that appeals to me. It's extremely weird at the same time, of course. I haven't seen any live Zorn or heard Hemophiliac etc., so I'm wondering if the Hemophiliac stuff is in a similar vein. The descriptions of it sort of remind me of early Zorn. So if anybody has anything to contribute about early Zorn, please do. - Gene Mayes
