Jerry and Listers, Sorry about the incomplete previous message, I have a new laptop and the keyboard is more sensitive than my old workhorse. Anyway, my size 13 canoes for feet can negotiate the M23 side deck, but, one must be careful. As I understand it, you were never very pleased with the coachroof on the original M23 anyway. Dingy for M15?

Free NOAA charts

I am preparing for the Port Townsend Small Boat Sailing Academy next weekend, and am doing some homework before the event. One thing I have never had to do is navigate and really read a chart, so I am learning about that with some excellent books I have purchased. It turns out that you can download very useful charts directly from NOAA as printable booklets at this link: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/staff/BookletChart.html Some of you probably already know a great deal about this, but I just figured I would share this nice link. These things are really good, and are slightly smaller than the real thing. I have the real chart for Tomales Bay, which is chart #18643, but the booklet version is really nice. I can look at it on my iPad, or print it. My color printer does 2 sided printing, which is what the pdf is designed for, and it prints really well. Opposed pages line up. So, if you did not know about this free resource, there you are. I have downloaded a few more, including the Port Townsend chart for my upcoming trip. Towing is the preferred method of attachment. As an alternate it may be attached to the masthead - preferably on a rotating mount so as to be visible from all quarters - 1/2" SS rod 36" long is suitable mount as a basis. As usual you are correct. GO

$50 for racing Saturday and Sunday for scoring at the WICR - Friday is additional $ and not required - Leukemia Cup is scored from racing on Saturday ONLY - Separate event scoring WITHIN the Birthday Regatta racing Birthday Regatta racing is Sat/Sunday both days - this will be used for scoring the WICR Leukemia Cup is raced on Sat (the same racing as BD Regatta - just scored separately) Not needed for WICR scoring Ullman Centerboard Challenge is Friday only scores for Friday count only for Ullman CC races - not needed for WICR scoring. Minimum to score for WICR is Birthday Regatta - The difference in fees will show up when you actually register - they ask you to check off boxes at whichever races you want to participate in and fees are calculated based on what you enter. The minimum should be $50. many will be eating at Wild Horse on Friday night and at the Yacht Club Birthday Party on Saturday night ($12.) Hope this makes it a little clearer - It is confusing. GO

I just sent this to Doug Kelch - he checked in as to the fleet status - The breakdown of probable (very probable) is this: M-17's - 5 with two modified boats - Stan S and mine. M-15's - 3 all stock (Glesser may not sail full series) Sage 17's - 3 all stock there may be an additional M-17 or two, maybe one more 15 - unknown at this time - We have a total of 11 boats committed at this time. The "purest" fleet as it is now is S-17's as of the stock 17's Eldor is not 'identical' to the other two! ?? Would probably be best to call the M-17 fleet the one and say yours is a prototype for 'one-design' purposes - better to get them ALL next year! for 'political' purposes - but - It is your trophy so go as you would like. The only thing I want to see is NO ANCHORS on Pulpits when racing!!! We should also come up with a list of boats and ratings so we don't have issues on the lake the day before or after we start racing - anyone can 'appeal' or hash out the numbers in advance. We can present them to the RC in advance of the racing for scoring. Would you PLEASE edit your entry to put your boat in the "Montgomery/Sage 17" fleet? Get back to me on ratings - I don't care where the trophy goes but it may help with entries??? Have a great day. we have NO plans of blowing over - just 'blowing by the fleet'

Terrible news - - the date according to my Maya Indian buddies is December 21 at 11:11 am. 'In Mexico's Mayan heartland, nobody is preparing for the end of the world; instead, they're bracing for a tsunami of spiritual visitors.' Just means you have to go sailing AGAIN!!
