The M-17 motors better with no mast onboard than with it up for sure IMHO. either way is not a problem. I think Doug K did the trip with his non-Montgomery boat (can't remember the make) GO M-17t

BOTTOM FINISH

I will be keeping my new (to me) M15 moored on a fresh water lake in NW Indiana. Should I be concerned with the bottom finish? In the past I have finished my boats with an ablative bottom paint finish was wondering if a harder thin film finish (vc17m) would do. M15 NONAMEYET George We can not control the Wind But we can adjust our Sails

Then there is the continuous loop with the sheet block fixed on the loop - allows upwind over-center, or traveller to lee and maintains ability to use mainsheet for tension of the leech at ALL positions. Nice when on moderate air reaches and upwind in light air. (from my Penguin rigging days) GO M-17t how many transom adjustable travellers can we find???

Coming from larger boats (last one Pearson 23 CB) I am accustomed to using a Traveler System. Looking thru the various projects on the Montgomery site I came across your contribution on the M17 system you developed. I have a couple of questions that you might be able to answer for me. 1. Should I continue to use the Main Sheet set up on the M15 (yoke at stern) or go full bore and convert to a 4 part mid boom Main Sheet directly to the new traveler? 2. I have searched the Ronstan web site for the parts you have listed but they do not come up. I suspect that there has been a change in the numbering system since you published the information. Do you have any recommendations as to how I can find the parts you recommend since there was no physical description of the parts? 3. I did a quick total on the costs of parts that I think might be right and they are approx $300 less line in today's boat $. Of course I have not visited a marine consignment shop to see what I can get to help keep the $ down. I see that the Harkin Small Boat Windward Sheeting Car is $319 I believe all I would have to add is Track @ about $80. M15 simplicity

For those that seek to make the M15 tricked out that is OK in my book BUT for me the beauty of this Jerry design is in its SIMPLICITY. You don't need no stinkin go fast goodies on this thing to make it boogie, when the wind pipes up you just need well placed movable ballast and good flat sails. "KISS" is the words to live by.
