This may affect most of the list. * The National Boating Safety Advisory Council recently approved a resolution for life jacket wear, asking the Coast Guard to pursue requirements for life jacket wear for recreational boaters in certain circumstances, the Marine Retailers Association of America reported. The resolution asks the Coast Guard to consider requiring life jackets for boaters on personal watercraft; human-powered vessels, such as canoes or kayaks; any vessel less than 18 feet in length; and any person being towed while engaging in water sports. Lake Havasu

M15 #200, Wee Fun This Lake Havasu seems like a good place to sail from all talk about it. Do many of you guys live near the lake? Up here in Boston I've been looking at my boat on the trailer since October; must be nice to get to sail more than five months out of the year. How is it living out there? Retirement will be here before I know it and I have a hard time getting my head around living in Florida. Kevin Lynch

I'd like to see your set up for a jib down haul and do you guys feel it's that important to dose the jib in heavy weather using one. Also do you have pictures of your set up for a down haul for the main sail and a boom vang set up. How important is a boom vang when you have your main sheet attachment is that close to boom center anyway? Lastly what modifications did you need to make to add a reacher to your small boat and is a reacher better or a light air genny with a pole better. Last year I bought a custom mainsail cover for my M15 from Sailright . I would think they would have the measurements on file. They did a good job. Sent from Garminfone by T-Mobile.

Nick, 'Post to where ?' is a good question, we no longer have the ability to 'store' photos on a site. Seems like you got it dialed in and the experience. The first round for my current M-17 outhaul, I had the thing set-up backwards as pointed out by Jerry (he reads the books) - made it LESS efficient to adjust ! Brain fade. For those that are interested - the best place to find versions of this type rigging is probably at the Harken site. Outhauls, Cunninghams, Barber and in hauls, any manner of rigging involving hardware. They will show you things you never new existed for example. Gross/Fine tune cascading mainsheets - gotta put one of those on the 7-11. _http://www.harken.com/rigtips/rigtips.php_ (http://www.harken.com/rigtips/rigtips.php) There seems to be a camp that is okay with cutting slots and drilling holes in their spars and a camp that says No Way - I respect both sides. I am fortunate in that I have a great fabricator/welder buddy that can fix anything I screw up ! I am working on jib lead in hauls - decided not to install the inboard track. trying to improve my upwind crab action when the keel stalls. Gary - Thanks! I am spending some quality time with my Dremel as I renovate the boat, and I agree the installation of an outhaul isn't that difficult - just takes time. I put an internal outhaul on my Flying Scot years ago. Jerry is right: it is more complicated than halyards, and I figured hard at the time to work out the best approach. I built a cascaded system, and it has worked great for a long time with no problems. re: pics -- post to what list? I am not going to pull out the outhaul for pics! -- but I could take external views and draw a schematic. Nick C.
