M-17 Motu iti is home based in Arlington, TX. She are currently in Lake Havasu City, AZ to participate in "1st Havasu Pocket Cruiser Poker Run and Scavenger Hunt" but will be back in TX in March. We would be happy to have you look her over and take a sail. BTW two of us spent 6 days and night on her in the San Juan Islands last year. Headsail Tack

What is the cleanest, most straight-forward way to attach a hanked on headsail to a late model M17? The headstay fitting is fabricated SS rather than the earlier cast aluminum. The headstay fitting has three equal distance holes (I haven't measured the diameter of the holes). I use the forward most hole for the headstay. I'm thinking a simple "D" shackle would do, but I can't find the exact one. Would a long "D" shackle be better than standard? I hate the idea of fumbling around with a "D" shackle on the foredeck--then plop into the water. Ideas/advice? Hi Folks: Like Tim, I've also wanted a boat with more cabin, but I'm not gonna give up my M17 for awhile. She's definitely the best sailer I've ever owned (not that there have been that many) But I'm surprised the discussion didn't include the Balboas. Lyle designed the 20, 26, and 27, I think, and while they were aimed at a different type of market & built to different standards... still, being designed by Lyle I'll bet they sail better than most. Of course, a Norsea is going to be my reward in heaven, but earthly realities prevent my ownership anytime before then. Balboas can... in theory... be had by a mortal, however. Anyone have any experience with them, good/bad/otherwise? Santa Barbara Island

Have any of you skippers sailed from Long Beach to Santa Barbara Island? I am thinking about such a trip. Wondering about wind conditions, points of sail, anchorage? Would any of you M-15 skipper want to join a sail this summer? Maybe a tack to Santa Barbara Island. Then to Catalina and return to Long Beach. Want to escape winter and sail

Hi: Is there an M-17 skipper in the San Diego area who could use an eager and able crew member sometime from March 8 through March 11? I¹m a Milwaukee-based M-17 owner who¹s escaping the snow (about 80² so far this year) by tagging along with my wife on her work conference trip. If you must wait for your Nor'sea 27 until you get to heaven, why not a new M23? They cost less than half the price (considerabley less) than a Nor'sea and have the same pedigree. Cheers. A new page...

Just completed another page on the Photo Site. This one compliments of Brian Gilbert (again). Twelve photos in a pictorial essay of how to refurbish a M17 Cast Iron keel. This one was easy. Brian generated the copy (words) for the photos so I did not have to. Nice to have authors in our group...Thanks Brian! We now have four examples of M17 CI keel repair. I bought a new old stock Thetford 35 on eBay for my M-15 #249 last Spring. It fit perfectly. There is lots of discussion of this topic on the group site. I felt buying an old one that would fit was the best solution for me, and was delighted to find one. I expect the seller was mighty pleased also. My boat had come with a Sears potti that was a bit too tall, and likely was the cause of the wooden cushion frame being broken.
