My former Stargazer a 1979 M-17 was in the water for 4 years ( Lake Lanier, Ga) and in the Gulf for about a year before I bought her. No blisters either time. Harvey/ Ga

The article I send David the link to states blistering can show up in 5 years. He's not too far off that, and I doubt it's a hard and fast rule. However, I would go further and say one shouldn't expect to see blistering at all in a hull that's laid up properly. Hi David Which barrier coat system do you have? And do you also have a bottom paint? (Over the barrier coat or over a bare bottom?) We recommend Interlux 2000E epoxy barrier coat (about $67 a gallon. One gallon should cover and protect the bottom) I've never heard of any blistering on the boats except yours. And some people here on the West Coast have their boat in the water all year long. Small blisters can be sanded flush and when the hull is prepared properly you can roll on the Interlux barrier coat. ( 2000E). This is a bullet proof epoxy that lasts forever. You can live with them (as long as they don't get a lot worse), or you can eliminate them. Eliminating them entails grinding them off and filling the voids. I can't imagine it's too much fun. I know that an M-15 has been successfully towed behind a Golf Gti, but my 1987 Golf (basic) was definitely at the upper end of its capabilities towing one across the flatlands of Eastern MD/DE.. I once knew of a man who towed a Catalina 22 with a Toyota 4 cyl pickup. My Honda Valkyrie motorcycle will "move" a Monty 15, but I wouldn't move it more than a couple hundred yards at low speeds. It all depends on what you mean by "move".

I tow my M-17 with a Nissan Frontier 4-cyl (5 speed manual) pickup. However, I've never towed it long distances nor on hills except on street where I live, which is steep. Absolutely no problem launching or retrieving. Knock on wood! Bill K M-17 Half Monty (#55)

A bit of help, please, from you gelcoat/fiberglass experts out there. I have an M17, hull # 619, that I bought new. It was built in the winter of 2003. I have sailed it hard for three seasons. For each of those three years the boat has spent three to four months on a mooring in fresh water. This year when I pulled the boat for the season and scrubbed it down I discovered large areas of the hull below the waterline are covered with hundreds of small blisters. The P-15 weighs in at 450 while the M-15 weighs in at 750. There is probably differences in the trailer as well. The Honda Civic did well. Not only with the launch/recoverery duties, but also delivered the boat from San Francisco to Seattle, when I sold the P-15. My logic to try was easy. I could put four big guys in the Honda and it worked just fine and the weight of the 3 extra bodies at 200 plus was less than the weight of the P-15. My only real concern was in the durability of the drivetrain. I figured the automatic trans or the brakes would give out. That was when the car had about 20K. Now, I'm over 60K and have just replaced the brakes. By the way, there are several on the list that tow the M-17 with four cylinder econo pickups, probably with the same or less horsepower than the Corolla. So, power isn't likely going to be a problem... however, make sure to see that stopping isn't a problem before you get going to fast. The Honda did well, just added a few extra feet on a quick stop. The cost of a hitch including shipping from an online source http://www.usa-trailer-hitches.com/ is probably under a hundred dollars and may be worth the try. Let us know if you go for it and how it works out for you. Bill
