Hi, I am Bill Tosh I have recently purchased an M15, hull #158. I enjoy sailing most all East Texas Lakes and Gulf Coast Bays. Have been in the custom woodcraft/sailboat business for almost 30 years. Centerboard pins and Boom Gallows

Hi all: This question is for Jerry Montgomery, or anyone else who might have an answer... is the 1/2" SS centerboard bolt any sort of hardened or high-grade bolt, or is it plain old stainless steel? I just got mine out, and while it's straight, it's a little roughed up on the surface... I thought I shouldd replace it while it's out. Also, I'm thinking of building a permanent boom gallows for the cockpit. I figure it could double as part of a bimini as well. Jerry, do think there's room, or would just be in the way? Hi Frank, Now that Bill put in his $.02 let me add mine. My M15 #400 had the shallow starboard sail locker when I bought it. The port locker went all the way downs to the hull and I used it to hold a narrow milk box that held my 4.4 lb Bruce anchor copy, a gallon of fuel as well as two one quart oil containers filled with fuel. They are easier to pour into the HONDA 2 HP engine fuel tank than trying to hold the gallon container with spout and do the same. I cut around the rim of the shallow starboard sail locker and made it removable. Now I had the best of both worlds; the shallow locker for small stuff - car keys, wallet, locks, sail stops, etc.; plus the storage area below, where I keep extra cockpit cushions; the swim ladder; the paddle / boat hook; and the Bimini. On a boat this size you want to use every bit of storage space you have. Gasket the inside of the sail locker lids so that water can't enter. Also put hasps on the lids so that they are positively closed when sailing, but can be opened with a flick of your finger for access to whatever you might need. I second Bill's comments about a rug for the cabin sole. I got several samples from my local carpet store and then cut them to size. I made several with different colors; not much labor but then a lot of choice... A topping lift is a necessity. As Bill said, most of us use a 2 HP HONDA and find it excellent, but, .....like anything, this is a function of where you sail, and what kind of tidal currents you may be bucking. I had a Forespar tiller extension, but found it not very satisfactory for sitting forward in the cockpit. The angle between the Forespar tiller extension and the M15 tiller was about 120 degrees, so you didn't have very good control if the wind piped up. I built my own tiller extension out of wood, and raised it high enough so that it cleared my knees while sitting on a cushion. It had a pin on the underside that fitted into the Forespar socket in the tiller, plus the underside was hollowed out to fit the shape of the M15 tiller. It was held in place with a piece of Velcro. The advantages are: less pressure on the tiller you get your weight forward so that the stern of the boat isn't dragging in the water tighter course control ....and it is instantly removable Connie

That small mountain lake is St. Mary's Lake in Glacier National Park. I remember a picture from nearly the same angle in my parents home from back when I was a teenager. Places like that are the beauty of owning a trailersailer. A great trip would be to visit several of the mountain lakes in northern Montana. I've been planning on doing Flathead Lake someday. A detour through Glacier Park looks like a worthwhile option. Larry

Hello there I just ordered a new M15 for next spring.I found Bob to be very open to my ideas and changes to personalize the boat for me as well as very fair with prices.I have been sailing since 1977 and have owned MANY boats over the years...from a 15ft sirrocco,DS16 cuddy,17 ft siren,17ft suncat,18ft sandpiper,flicka 20(still own)21ft flushdeck,edel665,shark24,jenneau 25,Tanzer25,pearson Ariel(my favorite..still own),jenneau28,Alberg 29,and a beneteau331.I've both trailersailed(my favorite) and been offshore.Took the 331 from Charleston -down thru the Keys-to bimini-grand Bahama isl-Abacos and back.I plan to keep the Ariel at green turtle cay in the Abacos as a home base for it...winter sailing..and do my explorations here with the M15.My heart has always been with small boats. In this hectic world ,they represent peace and simplicity.Any thoughts on a M15..tips..must haves etc as well as great trailer cruising spots would be appreciated.I prefer less people-more scenery to busy locations. I'm based in Ontario Canada.Bob tells me another couple from London Ontario have also ordered one. Should make shipping east a lil cheaper.
