Fractals can be chaotic-having the charactersitic of sensitivity to change in intital conditions. Here are two examples of chaos.The first,a plain vanilla Mandelbrot zoom, has the chaotic nature of the artificial.The pattern while convoluted and serpentine is not noisy-it does not have randomness it because it is strongly self-similar.For example it is perfectly symmetrical. The second mimics natural chaos-it is superficially random. There is the hint of structure in the discernible spiral but it has the irregular variations of the natural world. FOTD -- April 08, 2010 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Due to an unexpected but critical rush job that arrived on Wednesday, today's image will have to go with little discussion. But fractals usually speak for themselves, so to see what the excitement is about, either run the included parameter file or check the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> where the finished image is or soon will be posted. The parent fractal was created by subtracting 0.4 part of Z^5 from Z^3 and adding straight C. This parent is a Mandelbrot set rotated 180 degrees with scattered debris extending farther out in both directions along the X-axis. Today's scene is located in a clump of this debris east of the main body of the parent. Partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 90F 32C made Wednesday feel like midsummer here at Fractal Central. Gifzilla,502, and a fractal

About Apr 5 and the 502 error for Gifzilla, Google says 502 means servers could't talk too each other.The best I can say is try again.Speaking of gifs is any one else having this problem? When I click on the thumbnail in the Apr 5 post the images download saying it's a gif,but when I click on image to save, it saves as a png.What's peculiar is that when I checked out the post earlier the images saved as gifs. Is Blogger messing with my head or does it have something to do with my browser? I'm using IE7 and a Sony Vaio laptop. The whole point to uploading gifs is to provide a real life sample of a sparklie image to try out resampling techniques. Go to http://maxitersfractalfollies.blogspot.com to see the finished image. FOTD 07-04-10 (Separated Selves [6])

FOTD -- April 07, 2010 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I named today's image "Separated Selves' because it appears to have somehow come apart. At the center of the scene, well beyond resolution, lies a minibrot. The pattern around it is of the typical East Valley variety, but in this image the parts are disconnected, with new radiant centers appearing from nowhere within the main pattern. The generating expression subtracts 2Z from Z^3 and adds straight C to produce a Mandelbrot set with an extraordinary main stem. Instead of having a large minibrot on its negative spike, this parent has an open object shaped like an upright numeral 8 centered on the X-axis. Today's scene is located in the east branch of the valley separating the top and bottom halves of the figure 8. The rating of a 6 is all I could give the image. Maybe if I had put more effort into it, I might have raised it to a 7, but with a serious attack of spring fever that lasted all day, more effort was the last thing on my mind. I remained quiet, remem- bering that, according to church doctrine, there is no salva- tion outside the church. Well, it now looks like there is no salvation inside the church either. I guess the devil has just about won the contest for souls! Tuesday began with a shower and one grumble of thunder here at Fractal Central, but the rain ended by 8am and by 10am the sky cleared. The rest of the day was a beauty, with sunny skies, balmy southwest winds and a temperature of 86F 30C. When the fractal cats felt the heat, they went into their stretched-out postures for the first time this year. The rest of the action on Tuesday was average, with nothing to make the day different from thousands of similar days. FOTD 06-04-10 (Terraces to Nowhere [5.5])

FOTD -- April 06, 2010 (Rating 5.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image with its rating of 5.5 is quite a come down from the lofty rating of 9.5 given to yesterday's image. But it is still worth a quick look. Unfortunately, with a calculation time of 12-4/5 minutes, taking a really quick look from the parameter file could present a problem. To solve this dilemma, I suggest a quick trip to the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> where the image is or soon will be posted for immediate viewing pleasure. The parent fractal is a small Mandelbrot set rotated 90 degrees so that its main stem points north along the positive Y-axis. Today's scene is located on the negative Y-axis beyond (south of) the parent's East Valley, on a blunt wedge jutting into a distorted bud on the northeast shore line of a strange appearing hole with minibrot characteristics. The name "Terraces to Nowhere" pretty much explains itself. The terraced effect was achieved by rendering the scene with the out- side set to 'tdis'. And now that the image has been described, let's get to conditions here at FC. Lots of sun and a temperature of 82F 28C made Monday the most pleasant day so far this year here at Fractal Central, at least outdoors. The sun is now so high in the afternoon sky that it falls short of the fractal cats' window shelf. The dynamic cats do not worry themselves about the lack of sun however. It is now plenty warm all through FC. My day was average, like so many other days. It's curious that when one is a child every day seems different, then when they reach adulthood, all the routine days seem to blend into a kind of monotonous similarity. FOTD 05-04-10 (Resurrection Scene [9.5])

FOTD -- April 05, 2010 (Rating 9.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's rather somber image rates an extraordinary 9.5. I might have rated it at a 10 if I had done more work on it. As it is, most of the colors are not mine, but were created randomly by the Fractint program in glorious 256-color GIF format. I did tweak the colors just enough however to earn a half-point bonus. The parent fractal was created by subtracting straight Z from Z^2.5 and adding straight C. This parent resembles a Mandelbrot set with three buds instead of only one bud on its west side. Today's scene is located on the south edge of the valley separat- ing the north bud from the center bud. When I first checked this area, I almost gave up. I saw no chance at all of finding minibrots or anything else very interes- ting there, but by rendering the area with the outside set to 'fmod' I did find a minibrot, and as today's image shows, quite a good one at that. The area is so full of discontinuities that instead of breaking up the image, the discontinuities help create the image. The name "Resurrection Scene" was inspired not only by what is sup- posed to have happened on the first Easter, but by the image, which has become so broken up that it has returned to life in even better form. The calculation time of 2-1/2 minutes is far more reasonable than the times of some recent FOTD images. But as always, the finished image is posted on the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> where it may be viewed instantly and without effort. Full sun and a temperature of 73F 23C made Easter Sunday a day to be remembered here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats enjoyed most of it, but would have been a bit happier with an extra treat or two of tuna. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.
