Hi,
did you know that Fractint performs superbly with the AMD
64Bit CPU?
I use a Winchester 3500+ clocked at 2250MHZ.
500Mhz cache, 1 giga FSB, dual core 1giga RAM
clocked at 500Mhz. I just give you 2 examples:
Lee`s "Mother pac velociraptor" image usually needs
about 2 1/2 hours with a 2 Giga Pentium 4. Now it`s there
in 16 Minutes! (Tesseral). My speed test image needs
1min 35sec with the same cpu, now it`s generated in 25seconds.
If I have to do some editing I run Fractint in the
Win98 dos shell, otherwise with a booted DOS7. The
performance is identical but I have problems to keep
text and image screens apart.
Either there is no text screen or the image
is kaputt. I tried all possible PIF modes but I cannot find
a solution. A workaround is to start Fractint from a win-
dowed DOS-Commander (Newdos).
To start Fractint in the switched DOS mode (Real DOS) is none
because the performance is very bad. Why??
Does anybody know a solution? "Textsafe=save" of "Textsafe=yes"
does not help. Are there any SSTOOLS commands which I possibly
dont know of?
As the Fractint List par`s compilation on Les St. Clairs
homepage ends first quarter 2002 I made a new compilation
of 2002, 2003 and 2004. It was a tough job and needed lots
of editing but it`s worth it.There a four files, a separate
formula file for 2002. The other compilations contain the
Par`s and the formulas.. I did that to be sure that the correct versions are
used. Morgan L. Owens formulas always have the remark
"earler versions to be discarded." My "Multifractal"
project in 2003 was a continuing row - you might say chaotic -
of versions until the final stage. Several times it was broken
by mysterious bugs, artefacts and incompatible versions.
Therefor I used a numbering of each Multifractal instance.
Of course these names should only be used in this context.
Where necessary I put a "Debugflag" command in the par-file,
some images need a "debugflag=322" others dont generate if
it is not set to zero. All Multifractal images, also Lee`s
and other peoples are tested and should run w/o problems.
Possibly, especially after Hiram Berry`s pars in 2004
Fractint must be restarted .Anyone who wants
to make these compilations permanently available on her or his
homepage will get a mail with a zipped attachment of
these files. Jim`s FOTD`s are included!
The final version of the multifractal project is Multifractal10
and should be virtually bugfree, no changes since half a
year. It can reproduce most of the earlier images
and a lot more. A good image is included.
