on the anticon tip - has anyone else checked out Hymie's Basement? it's on lex, a division of warp, and it's one of the guys from clouddead and somebody else (sorry, i'm not really hip to this scene, man). anyway, it's extremely verbose with really strange/cool production featuring lots of queasy piano loops. it was one of those listens where i was more intrigued than anything else. i'm still not quite sure if i really liked it, but it was interesting enough to go back to at least once. i don't know if it even actually qualifies as hip hop. too.......something....avant-garde? (at least for hip hop) yes, i'm white. so are the guys in hymie's basement. does that matter? and the same can be said of MCs. it irritates me that when i tell people that i listen to some hip-hop, it is things like eminem or black-eyed peas they immediately imagine. the possibilities of rythmic word play are only now being charted. i will be very surprised if doseone ( of themselves, cLOUDDEAD etc) does not fast become one of the most important artists of recent times. not to mention other MCs really streatching the medium: Sage Francis, Noah23, and, most recent effort excluded, Aesop Rock.
There is no downhill for someone like Bjork. And I'd venture to say, having read a fair amount of her interviews, that she's as much, if not more of an audiophile as everyone on this list. I'd agree that Zeena is a over dramatized tool, but not in a way that hinders Bjork's music. I second the Flaming Lips shout. And referring to Nathan's comments, I'm not sure to what extent Dose One is as much a rhythmic pioneer as he is a syllabic (is that a word?) pioneer. Personally, I respect him, but can't listen to his voice for extended periods of time. It makes me want to eat my own hand. Gavin s~Z wrote:

It's been all downhill since she met Zeena Parkins.

There's no problem with Björk. It's just that some people like her and some other not and some others even hate her. It's very simple. ___________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger - Nueva versión GRATIS Super Webcam, voz, caritas animadas, y más... http://messenger.yahoo.es

I was joking. I saw her with my son at the Dorothy Chandler in LA and loved every minute. The DVD of that performance from the Royal Opera House is stunning, especially the parts that focus on Zeena. As for now this new E# is bringing great pleasure. Highly recommended. And speaking of Zeena, her work with E# is fabulous as well.
