Overtoom 301, Amsterdam Tomorrow night we're pleased to welcome 2 stalwarts of the Japanese noise-underground for the ONLY Dutch date on their current European tour - not to be missed! ABSOLUT NULL PUNKT was originally formed in 1984 by K. K. NULL [before he started noise-rock trio ZENI GEVA] and SEIJIRO MURAYAMA [the original drummer of Keiji Haino's FUSHITSUSHA]. Wasn't it supposed to be some very ellaborate scheme, with several singles by four different bands or something like that? Fantomas Live

Fantomas generally ripped me to shreds when they played in Athens, GA on April 2nd. They did material from all three records plus some material from the as yet to be released 4th CD. They even did "Chariot Choogle" for christsakes! Hearing the records is one thing, seeing them perform the material is another incredible, frightening and awe-inspiring thing altogether. I saw them in the middle of the ACME fest here, and it surprised me how Fantomas and Melt-Banana's performances meshed into Joe McPhee, Peter Brotzmann and the Vandermark 5 and offshoots performances over the 4 days that all these events occured. Same intensity and creativity, only the methods differed. Go see Fantomas! 11th House

I might feel MUCH differently nowadays, and I don't own any of the albums and never have, so I can't re-listen with fresh ears, but I saw Coryell and the 11th House twice in the mid 70's and I thought that they were technically good but they did all the things with fusion that I didn't like then and still don't like: got too funky in an attempt to 'reach the people', played fast over uninteresting structures and had generally weak material that even good musicianship couldn't cover up.
