anybody got any recommendations for good places to see live music in chicago? (besides the obvious - metro, double door, etc) looking for lesser known venues with something cool to offer. i just moved here. thanks in advance. (keep in mind i am into ALL KINDS of music) best. -mike

hello, sorry for the post with non-existant zorn content...i moved quite a while ago and found in a box recently, a batch of still sealed cds i had never gotten around to, didn't realize i had and bought new copies of! (well, and one or two i just plain don't want). still sealed, not cut-outs/promos. i'm lookin for $10 post paid in the US. preference to paypal users. I saw that Herbie Show when it passed through San Francisco back in June. I thought, Herbie's playing was marginal. Moreover, he didn't really seem to be "feeling" it, just kind of phoning it in if you will. Frankly, I think, Herbie's tired of doing the acoustic stuff. He brought his Headhunters clan to the Fillmore in March, and his performance that night, made you feel like you got your monies worth. I decided not to watch the Grammy's, I tend to get extremely nauseous when watching awards shows. What kind of award was Shorter up for? Thanks, Zornlisters. Don't forget that she mentioned Adam Levy too! He's done some great stuff with Trevor Dunn on "Debutantes and Centipedes" as well as Joey Baron. Are those musicians on her album? Is any of it any good? This thursday, february 27th at 9pm, the Ludovico Ensemble will be performing John Zorn's 'music for children' with nick tolle-percussion, shinae kim-piano, and hsin-chun shih-violin. the concert will be in Seully Hall which on the 4th floor of The Boston Conservatory, 8 The Fenway, Boston MA. admission is free. the concert also features works by george crumb, john cage, steven scher and more. Lurie Lives!

So John Lurie had a falling-out with the Knitting Factory??? I never hear any of the good gossip. Lurie finally updated his website!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was supposedly on some recent episodes of OZ and is preparing to do a new show on IFC called "Are You Comfortable?" Has anyone heard anything about it? I thought Lurie was in a manic phase and that we may never see him again.
