Hi all, Those who were interested might be wondering when the final Planet Dada Remix of yourstruly will be finished. Well... It's in the fridge for a while. With the new gear that landed in my little studio I'm a bit overwhelmed by the new options. I found more fun in restoring/re-doing my personal material then working on the Dada remix. But I hope that the initial idea will remain alive and that we will be able to compile a Yello Mailing List Remix CD!!! I'm limited in server space, but have already been working on a little site with a bunch of Dada samples that are ready to upload in Trackers and Samplers. When it's up I'll let you know. Rene
You make me jealous with your new toys, but it's good to be creative and as you said, your original material should take a precedent over re-working anyone else's (even if it is inspired by Boris!). Keep busy, and keep posting. Laurens van Graft The Grip Guy All your gymnastics grip needs right here! Abolish Daylight Savings Time; its past it's usefulness On Mar 12, 2004, at 8:40 AM, Rene wrote:

Hi Laurens... Don't be jealous. Just do like me: Try to live on bread, butter and chocolate crisps for a year. Drink rain water (if it's safe enough). Then work your ass off doing all kinds of side projects. Then refund the savings you gained into new gear. You'll look like an overworked zombie, but with a cool studio :-) Rene The Zombie Guy ----- Original Message ----- From: Laurens van Graft To: The moon: beautiful. The sun: even more beautiful. I already look like an overworked Zombie, I have a Wife, a Mortgage, Four cats and a fifth one (cat) on the way. my current studio consists of: One Flamenco Guitar, One Peruvian Pan Flute, Three Harmonicas (Marine Brand), One Mouth Harp, One Recorder, One Four tone Okerena, and Two Gourd Maracas. My next edition will be a Djimbae (I love the sound(s) of that drum!) Laurens van Graft The Grip Guy All your gymnastics grip needs right here! Hi Laurence, Well... I haven't got a wife, a mortgage, nor cats... This left me some room to become a zombie by other means :-) But to All... Don't take my bread and butter thing too literally. It came close to that at one point where I denied myself any worldy needs to get the finances in a better shape. It all comes down to making choices... even if it can kill ya :-) Rene
cool stuff. Can you actually play all these instruments? I got myself a flute a couple years ago, that I play with, but can't actually play anything competently... but I enjoy having instruments in the house (also clarinet, tambourine, maraccas, recorder, a "tonette", we got a "blues" harmonica somehwere that nobody knows how to play, and now a rented bass clarinet for my son) It's probably a good thing a don't have the means to record myself, sample myself, or anything else because I think I would become a zombie too just playing all the time. -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Laurens van Graft Sent: Friday, March 12, 2004 8:50 PM To: The moon: beautiful. Weeeellll, yes,, I can play all these instruments and then some, as to the level of proficiency, some more than others, (I had to sell my 85 year old Heintzman upright Grand piano, bit I have a c1885 upright grand coming soon. I can hardly wait to refresh my fingers on a keyboard other than my Mac. As Rene and you both have stated, it is easy to become a Zombie in the world of Music, as it is not only an internationally recognized language, but an extremely powerful drug. Do any of you think that the lac of music training in the school system over the years is a contributing factor to the increase in violence and youth globally? I think so! I think the world has always been violent (i.e. Cain and Abel) but now there's more people to tick each other off so it just seems like it's getting more violent. But I do agree fine arts education is important... I have been pretty disgusted with the school system in general, and in a recent conversation with my mother she expressed the same distaste from when I was in scool (20+ years ago). I kinda think maybe part of the problem is a school system set up around an agrarian society isn't the best fit for urban kids. When kids had to go home and plow fields all summer vacation long they were too busy and tired and too far apart from each other to get into as much trouble. Since this is the Yello list, I'll add that I think a lot of their music captures this violent tension in this world, but they manage to turn it into something fun and that's why they are so appealing to us. One of the infinite reasons why. Even though they say they are not talking about using drugs on Excess - the songs are quite seedy. But still fun. -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Laurens van Graft Sent: Saturday, March 13, 2004 5:30 PM To: The moon: beautiful.
