I
think the world has always been violent (i.e. Cain and Abel) but now there's
more people to tick each other off so it just seems like it's getting more
violent. But I do agree fine arts education is important... I have been
pretty disgusted with the school system in general, and in a recent conversation
with my mother she expressed the same distaste from when I was in scool (20+
years ago). I kinda think maybe part of the problem is a school system set
up around an agrarian society isn't the best fit for urban kids. When kids
had to go home and plow fields all summer vacation long they were too busy and
tired and too far apart from each other to get into as much trouble.
Since
this is the Yello list, I'll add that I think a lot of their music captures this
violent tension in this world, but they manage to turn it into something fun and
that's why they are so appealing to us. One of the infinite reasons
why. Even though they say they are not talking about using drugs on Excess
- the songs are quite seedy. But still fun.
Weeeellll, yes,, I can play all these instruments
and then some, as to the level of proficiency, some more than others, (I had
to sell my 85 year old Heintzman upright Grand piano, bit I have a c1885
upright grand coming soon. I can hardly wait to refresh my fingers on a
keyboard other than my Mac.
As Rene and you both have stated, it is easy
to become a Zombie in the world of Music, as it is not only an internationally
recognized language, but an extremely powerful drug. Do any of you think that
the lac of music training in the school system over the years is a
contributing factor to the increase in violence and youth globally? I think
so!
