Today's eclipse

Here is an image I took of the eclipse today. I used a Nikon D80 at prime focus of my 8 inch f13.3 refractor. I had a 4 inch dual aluminized filter glass in front of the scope. The equivalent lens is 2700 mm f26.6 I believe the exposure was 1/400 second. The image scale wouldn't allow the entire sun in the frame, but I managed to get a good deal of detail including sunspots, and mountains on the moon. The sensor is pretty dirty, so there may be some extraneous false sunspots. I normalized the image in Photoshop and made some minor color balance adjustments. Partial Solar Eclipse-10/23/2014

Here’s some quick and dirty photos of the partial eclipse from the driveway observatory in St. George. Pretty cloudy. In the last couple of photos the roof line of my house is obscuring Sun. Roof line is at top of photo. The telescope reversed up and down and right and left, I believe. Obviously, it reversed up and down. I was too lazy to edit the orientation in iPhoto. Such is life. I think the clouds add a nice touch. I started a little late into the eclipse and my roof obscured the final minutes. Star Party for the Girl Scouts, Provo South Fork Canyon (Trefoil Ranch), Friday Nov. 14. Need a few more scopes to help...

I've volunteered to do a star party for approx. 60 girl scouts and their leaders (from Park City) at the Trefoil Girl Scout Camp at the end of Provo South Fork canyon on Friday November 14th (weather permitting). It should be dark by 7 p.m. that night. The director told me they will provide a spaghetti dinner at 6:30 for anyone bringing a telescope to help out. I will be there, and it would be great/helpful to have at least 2 other scopes there with me. If you can help that night, please let me know ASAP so I can contact the camp director and let her know how many to plan for dinner. Thanks in advance.../Rich Tenney801~380~3331
