Send ICMP Host Unreachable for Pool: DISABLED

When I enable the above using: enable ip SEND_HOST_UNREACH_FOR_POOL I notice that my rip built routing tables on my router start to degrade. What I mean is this. I have rip configured on all my hiperarc's and on my backbone router. Without the above enabled all seems to work as expected. With it enabled some clients connect fine, others can connect but can't do anything past the hyperarc. When I investigate I find that some users that don't work do have entries in the table, others don't. I thought enabling that might reduce the size of my routing table further and increase the speed at which disconnected IP's are dropped from the table. It just seems to muck up the waters. Is this just a convergence issue with rip? What is the true function of this feature if not for this purpose? Any input at all. Software Update

Hello: About an year ago, I purchased two 3Com (each with 1-HiPer NMC, 2-Hiper ARC & 10-Hiper DSP). I was planning to set them up for a friend. I downloaded and installed software (On some of the components): HiPer NMC: 8.6.3 HiPer ARC: 5.3.110 HiPer DSP: 3.5.12 After about 1+ year of inactivity, I decided to setup 3Com. I noticed that some of the HiPer DSP has old software intalled on them. Using TCM, I decided to update the software and get the following errors: HiPer NMC: Error: No .nac file Uncheck the slot or enter a new file name Hiper ARC: Error: (Same) HiPer DSP: Error: (Same) I noticed that on the Software Download screen Slot colum show cards correctly. NAC/DMF File, SDL File & Status columns are blank. As I said, last year I had done Software Updates but now I can not. Can somebody help me by showing the light? Kirti

I don't know if this would apply to a E1 setup, our setup is a T1/D4 standard setting did not work, the switch I am connecting to is very old, I had to connect a cable directly to the dsp and configure via a CLI, I too had a similar problem, the change was "Answer to Supervision Delay" I pushed it out to "70". (disclaimer) I am not a telco guy, and I think my local telco knows less than I do, I came up with this setting by trying everything.

To be more specific - in order to get to the trunk settings, you have to click and highlight the 5 lights at the top of the card. Once you do that, then you can click configure, then program settings, and then you'll see trunk settings. Thanks Lewis, Yes they are NMC auto config and they show up correctly even on the ARC. Telco says calls get to the DSP because the activity lights 'blink' from time to time showing people trying to access them. However the busy tones persist. Been trying to check the trunk settings but do not seem to see the command on either the TCM or the DSP console. How do I change the trunk setting? Can not save settings

Hello: I am trying to setup a 3COM TC. My config is as follows: Slot 1-10: HiPer DSP Slot 15-16: HiPer ARC Slot 17: Hiper NMC I notice that when I modify HiPer DSP cards from Total Control Manager (TCM), The settings are not save. Help on DSP busy!

Hello All We have a small TC1000 set up with 1 NMC, 1 ARC and three E1 DSP cards. Had been working fine for over a year till it was affected by a lightning strike which burnt connected network cables and took out the NMC and one DSP. After replacement of damaged cards, everything seems to be working fine but the DSPs are not accepting calls. Telco says busy signs are a result of faulty DSPs but they were tested ok on a different site. The entire chassis was changed with a spare yet the busy tones persist even when there is no one connected. We urgently need help! New chassis is populated with old cards and I am wondering if a software upgrade will have an effect. ARC ver 4.1.13, NMC ver 6.2.17, DSP ver 3.5.13 Thanks. Hello, Yep, this is exactly what I was thinking on this. Just wanted to take it one step further and make it have a proxy so if the customer typed in any web url, it would go to my payment site. Looking for How-To's on this now. Thanks for all the brain storming from everybody. Trying to be more competitive in these day and age is what can keep me open. Mark Mitchell Inwave Internet Inc. Can't give you step by step, I'd have to go searching for the how-to because I haven't done anything like this in a long time - but here's the way I'd do it: You can set up a filter on the ARC that will only allow access to a single address (the address of your payment site). Then you have to have radius assign that filter to the users you want. For signup, I set up a username "signup" with a blank password, didn't even set this up on radius, just on the Hiper ARC itself. Someone dialing in with that account, same thing, only allowed to go to a certain site, and had a session limit of like 5 minutes. Also went a step farther - had the second ethernet port on the ARC plugged into my private internal network, and assigned the signup user an address from a local, private IP pool, so the got an address like 90.0.0.x or something were completely unable to route to the internet when connected as that user.
