(usr-tc) SNMP went away...

Ever since I upgraded my HiPer ARC, snmp didn't work, so I started poking around... The last release I had seemed to have it on by default, whereas this one (4.2.32-1) seems to not; although it did allow me to script my additions of communities and whatnot without any complaints. So I did a "add netWORK seRVICE snmp serVER_TYPE snmpd enABLED yes". But was still unable to get any data. Looked at it, and it showed this status: HiPer-1>> list network SERVICES CONFIGURED NETWORK SERVICES Server Admin Name Type Socket Close Status snmp SNMPD 161 FALSE DISABLED tftpd TFTPD 69 FALSE ENABLED telnetd TELNETD FALSE ENABLED Issued "enabLE netWORK serVICE snmp", and it still says "disabled". What am I missing here? The manual makes no mention of doing anything beyond adding the service and even states it should be enabled by default when added... Any clues? (usr-tc) TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS

We have a user who has been having problems with their dialup connection from the day they started with us. They are complaining about the typical "stalling problem" and their application (a stock tracking application) dying which is causing them to have to do a reboot on Win95. To make matters worse they have a Lucent Winmodem. I have sent them the latest software but it doesn't seem to help. They are getting a solid 28.8kbs connection. I looked at theor modem stats in TCM, when they were connected, and the analog stats look fine. However, when I look at Call Stats I am seeing some strange numbers: Number of characters sent 2664304 Numebr of charcters received 398400 Number of blocks sent 37255 Number of blocks received 19320 Numebr of retrains requested 0 Number of characters lost 0 Link block errors 1160 Number of link protocol timeouts 265 Number of NAKS sent 1919 Gain recalculation count 0 Do these numbers seem normal ? I checked other calls and the results of my observations are unconclusive. I am open to suggestions. Of course with their other ISP (where they lived previously) they didn't have this problem. (usr-tc) Problem with new PRI

We added another PRI to our hunt group today. Telco says all trunks in group are set to UCD hunt method. New PRI is only taking 1 call on channel 1. It has taken both analog and digital calls on that channel. I have checked the card in TCM and all channels are enabled. I have done a hardware reset on the card, with no effect. Have not had the opporunity to switch the PRI to see if the problem follows the card or the trunk. (usr-tc) Connect Speed issues

Folks, I know this issue has been belabored numerous times but I thought I'd kick the dead horse one more time. Recently we have had 3 customers with HSP modems either leave or threaten to leave due to them being able to connect to other ISPs at higher speeds. As a last resort on two of them we replaced their modems with 3Com modems and they stayed. Here is what we saw: HSP 3Com Cust 1 26400 37333 Cust 2 29333 41666 In both cases all that was changed is the modem. As expected the connections got more stable too (i.e. less disconnects). In the case of the third customer he won't replace his modem but swears he gets 40K connections with other ISPs. I tend to believe him and we will probably lose him. In all cases when we looked at the analog stats, all we saw was a slight rolloff at 3750 but everything else looked good. With the HSP and other el cheapo' modems now shipping as standard issue on the low end machines, including the dreaded E-Machines, I suspect this problem is going to get worse not better unless 3Com can help us here. I am running the latest Quad code and 2.0.51 DSP code. (usr-tc) which Radius to use?

Hi, I'm trying to move Radius server that we are using now to a new server but I'm having some problems getting the current radius to run on the new server. So I was thinking of just reinstalling but the old network admin is no longer around and I can't figure out what version of radius we're running one the other box. All I get when I try to find out is: ./radiusd -v ./radiusd: RADIUS version 1.16.1 97/12/16 sun I would really like to use a radius that could check multiple logins. If anyone could point me in the right direction in which radius to use (on Sun Solaris 2.6) and where to get it I'd be much appreciative. Hi Dan, There are slight differences in setting between modems from different country settings, as our modems must comply with the different country specification settings set by each Telco , ATI7 tells you your country code setting. Country like US/Canada , Japan, Finland, Sweden, UK, Norway, South Africa, Italy, New Zealand, Czech / Slovkia, Belgium, Denmark, Austria, France, Germany, Austria , Ireland , Spain, Portugal and Malaysia all have very slight difference in values and limits, what you are seeing is more likely differences in modem country settings , we also have a country code setting that covers International ITU-T spic. Hi, I was paged out of bed last night by an arc card that stopped responding to pings... I went into tcm to have a look, and all was green, but going to the config screen showed that the card had no IP address anymore. Doing a hard reset brought it back, and it's working fine. Has anyone else seen this? Just a fluke, or an issue with the 4.3.32-1 code?
