I've been having a really bizarre problem off and on the last week or two. Occasionally some of my ARCs will suddenly stop doing OSPF right. The routing table loses all OSPF routes, and the ARC stops announcing its routes via OSPF to our Ciscos. Disabling/enabling OSPF doesn't help, but most of the time (not all the time) rebooting the ARC will. One thing that seemed to trigger it was rebooting some of our Ciscos... and since that happens so infrequently (not rebooted since going to ARC 4.2 in fact) it's hard to track down. I don't know which one exactly, maybe our AS border router dying is what threw it off. It also happened last night when I installed a Cisco Catalyst 2924XL (replacing an old 10BaseT hub, finally!) which didn't involve rebooting the Ciscos, but involved having them unreachable for a minute or two as cables were switched and Spanning Tree did its thing... I have another ARC with no modems on the same LAN (for testing) and it initially did the same thing, but now I'm having trouble reproducing it. When it was screwed up one night, it fixed itself overnight, but it obviously took hours to do, which kinda defeats the purpose of OSPF. I know this is really vague, but problem is, I don't really know where to start looking for this, because I didn't document very well what my current OSPF settings are. (A bulk-config-to-ASCII utility would be REALLY HELPFUL HERE :) I could reverse-engineer HARM and try to get a dump of that part of the config via SNMP somehow, I guess, but... yuck. Anyway, I'm also not a real in-depth OSPF guru yet. Has anyone seen anything like this before or know of any particular settings that I might want to check? This is driving me nuts (not to mention my customers) and I'm not sure where to start. If you have setup a chassis in which you have programed a slot to be static and save that configuration, once done it will remain static unless and untill removed manually. For your ports to be dynamic, here is what you need to do First remove the port from static configuration Then enable nmc chassis awarenss. When you do a sh nmc you will see three options in there nmc chassis awarness DSA DSA Idle rebla if you have only one hiper arc in the chassis then enable nmc chassis awarness and disable the other two. If you have more than one hyper arc and want to maintain dynamic configuration then enable all three. (usr-tc) Motorola SM56 modems

Anyone had any problems with Motorola SM56 modems? I ran into one person a while back that had a hell of a lot of problems with one, which went away when he got a Sportster... apparently Motorola didn't have any newer drivers (and yes it's a Winmodem). But in the last 4 days -- 3 of which we've been running 2.0.51 code on a mix of hardware revs 49, 53, and 54 -- we've had a sharp increase in the number of people having disconnects with these things. One of them was in a brand new Gateway computer, so I fear that they may have switched modem vendors yet again, and with Christmas having just come, that might be the source of lots of them. (ugh) So at this point I can't tell if it's that or if it's the 2.0.51 code causing the problem. I would rather be running 2.0.51 because I've got five DSP's on order and they're likely to be a newer hardware rev, and I'd rather run the same code across the board... (usr-tc) HyperARC/DSP Problem

I am having the absolute worst time trying to get my HyperDSP cards working in any capacity what-so-ever. Hoping someone from here has seen this or can tell me what to check. First i'm running HyperARC HW Version 19.0.0, with Version 4.1.59 Software. HyperDSP's are HW V 0.49.0, and I have thus far tried both 1.2.5 and 2.0.51 software. Im using PRI's and they both show up as UP and OPERATIONAL. (2) Problems... First of all I cant manage the cards (any of them) with TCM. Running 6.0.23, had the same problem on 5.X TCM as well. What happenes is I select the card, click on configure, click on card level and then click ok. I can get the Hyper DSP/ARC Information item, and all values come in and display fine. However I click on "Routing Method" and it comes up with this: Error Type: No Data Available Parameter: Modem Routing Method Object ID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.429.1.26.1.1.1.2.14000 Same type of message comes up on every query except info. I can communicate with the NMC card just fine (its an older NMC, not a HyperNMC). So I had to go in and USE HARM to program the HyperARC (that works fine btw), and I programmed the DSP's with a terminal. Second Issue (and this is the big one) I have two PRI's, 23B+D, Bell atlantic says everything is fine with both of them. But they refuse to hunt from the first hyperDSP to the second. I plug in the first PRI into either DSP card and it takes calls and works like a charm till it gets to channel 23, where we get a fast busy from then on. Im hoping there is a special "Oh you havemore than one hyperDSP" button that I need to push. anyone know what might cause this? -Scott

(usr-tc) Strange Speed Problems

I have encountered two problems recently regarding connect speeds that have just plain baffled me. In one location I moved to a new building and switched telcos (Ameritech -> TDS Metrocom) at the same time. Ever since then I have received a huge number of complaints from people saying their connect speeds dropped. An example drop would be from 52000 to 38666. A few people have said they connect faster but they are by far the minority. I have another POP where I moved it from one location to another. It is the same telco but different COs. The equipment is same equipment that with in the original location. I have the same problem here, people report that there connect speeds have gone down. I am at a compete loss at how to approach this problem. My first suspicion is that it is a telco problem since that is the thing that really changed. If that is the problem I don't know how to even go about approaching them with it with enough evidence to get them to actually take the issue seriously (you know telcos). Any advice anybody can offer on how to troubleshoot a situation like this would be greatly appreciated! I am running 2.0.81 in both locations.
