All I can say is Wow!! What a difference a year makes. Raven looks absolutley beautiful and my hat's off to Rick for the outstanding results. Rest assured Rick, that when I make it above the waterline.....(notice I said when and not if!) I'll be bending your ear for some advice! The woodwork, new ports, and gelcoat are awesome. I just wish that you hadn't already put the name "Raven" on the transom prior to taking the pics. That way I could have forwarded some of them to my in-laws in Nebraska who thinks I'm nuts and show then how nice my boat is turning out. Oh well, guess I'll have to just keep glassing away. Sean

What is the shortest trailer for a M-17?

I would appreciate some enlightment as to what is the shortest trailer available for a M-17. I am looking for a trailer that will fit (with the M-17 on top of the trailer) an a 20-ft long garage with door closed. I take as a given that the door will have to be 8-ft tall; that is taken care of. It is OK if in order to fit in the garage I need to " fold" the tongue to one side as in some Potter trailers. *Are you aware of any such " short" or " folding tongue" trailers?* You may wonder what I am up to. I am moving to Denver and would like to be able to store the boat inside the garage so I can work on it in the wiinter. Most importantly, if I get a trailer that fits in a 20-ft long garage then I will be able to ship the boat in a 20-ft shipping container when I move overseas (frequent event for me!). I am tired of buring boats and having to sell them when I move.. Thanks for your thoughts! Carlos Valencia, CA

Carlos, If you are considering the overall package length, trailer might not be the biggest issue, as the longest item to be dealt with will be the mast... According to the specs given in our MSOG site, the M17 standard mast is either 21 '3" or 21' 8". That means for garage, or to travel via container, mast must be angled within the space, or otherwise dealt with. Width of overall space could be an issue as well. Carlos, When we had Pacific Trailers make us a new trailer for our 23 we had them fabricate an extendable/removeable tongue into it. Our main concern was to be able to extend the tongue to make launching easier but you can just as easily pull the whole tongue right out of the trailer and set in on the floor under the trailer. We have a powerboat (don't tell anyone) and that's exactly what we do with it when we put it in the garage. It saves about 3 feet of length. If the trailer has surge brakes you just have them install a quick release coupler right where the tongue disengages. I have one on each trailer and they work great. I know that Pacific Trailers http://www.pacifictrailers.com/ who build the trailers for the current Montgomery boats, has a swing- away tongue option available. Whether this would make the trailer short enough is the question. But their phone numbers are listed on the web site, and I bet they could tell you.
