David; The fittings at the end of the boom are used for the mainsail outhaul and the fairlead is for the reef line attachment point. I don't know what the cleat is for but you said you knew. Maybe for a topping lift.

I have a small, adjustable whisker pole, 4-8', that I like very much. Seems like it was about $70 from West Marine. I use it a lot, even up to a beam reach, but running wing and wing is where it shines brightest. Hello All, Doug King should be on the top of our list for providing a great BB, I really wonder how he can do it all. There are so many people on this BB that have helped me that I can't thank everyone in one message. I really can relate to Larry Yake's story of following the small voice because I was on the receiving end once. I was 20 yr. old and just returned from Australia after 2+ years there. I was missing my girl friend from there and was walking home from a bar. I was really lonely and my face was wet. I was walking the 3 miles back and had my thumb out. Well this pickup guy stops and he had the most unusual look on his face. After awhile he said that he never picks up hitch hikers and after he dropped me off he still had that confused look on his face! The replacement pin wiggles to the port side as you trailer or possiblly sail as there is no restraint. I had put a small amount of 5200 sealant on the pin and I have epoxied over the pin ends at a later time as the sealant didn't work. I am not sure which "cure" I was using at the time I lost the board. I towed the M15 from VA to MA and was so excited about starting the cruise I did not check the pin to see if it had moved while trailering. During the 30 mi crossing to Nantucket ( a nice beam reach with 12 - 15 kts of wind, deeeelightfull) I crossed a shoal and it got a little rough. The CB started clunking more than expected but after I cross the shoal I heard no more noise. When I anchored that night I pulled the cb up but there was no weight on the lanyard as it was broken, no stopper not at the lower end. In the AM went overboard with mask and snorkle to attach a new lanyard - NO CENTERBOARD! - just the pin sticking way out. :( Luckily the new boards Bob Eeg is makeing fit the older M15 with a little judicious sanding here and there. I have now shortend the pin so it is recessed slighly and epoxied over it. The problem has not returned. Thanks Doug __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! It's the standard method. I'm not sure you need a sleeve, just epoxy the exposed core material to prevent moisture penetration.

Peter, I use a tiny, stainless shackle mounted on the stem fitting of our Potter to run our downhaul through, from Lowe's no less! The shackle is more reliable than a block, I found, and the effort involved in its use is negligible. Like Tod, I don't have any fairleads, and haven't found the need for any. You may want to try doing without first, since you can always add them later and will have a better idea of where to put them. A tiny horn cleat belays the end of the downhaul, mounted on the cabin top near the companionway. A figure 8 at the bitter end keeps it from getting away. If you have solid fiberglass there, drilling is straightforward. If it's cored, you'll have to protect the coring from water intrusion and rot. There's a couple of ways to do this, but I've never needed to do it myself, so will leave it to others to advise you. I can tell you that you shouldn't use department store epoxy for sealing it because the stuff isn't truly waterproof. Personally, I've had very good success with epoxy products from RAKA (do a search to find out all about this fine little company). Good Luck! Steve Tyree, P-15

Also: When I get the chance, I'm going to permanently wire the running light. I bought one of those bi-color bow lights that mount to the bow pulpit. I wired a pigtail with a two-connector plug to the light and can run a temporary wire back over the cabin top to the battery. I'm thinking about running the wire down through the bow pulpit tuming and through the deck at that point, I can drill a large hole from the underside of the deck, seal the core, and epoxy in a sleeve to run the wire though. Then I've got to fish the wire from a grommetted hole in the pulpit tubing down though the sleeve. seems like a lot of work. Has anyone ever done ths and what suggesting do you have. Hi Rich, Do you have bottom paint on her? Or will the small amount of growth come right off with a water blast. I'll have my M-17 at Oyster Point a few miles North. I was thinking about extended bay cruising, but don't want to add the coating. Bill M-17 SF
