At the height of my addictive collecting (pre ebay, etc) I stumbled upon a mint copy of Who Killed the JAMs for $5 in a record shop I only stopped at because I thought I'd check it out before going on my way - I was on a business trip. I also found a sealed vinyl copy of Shag Times a couple years back for regular price. I shouldn't have opened it but I doubt I will sell it anyway and I wanted to admire it. :) My introduction to the KLF was seeing 3am Eternal on MTV and while I initially dismissed it as being rap there was something about the imagery of the clip that made me think there was something going on there. Bought the album a bit later but was still confused by the discography; things didn't make sense and I had felt there was something I was missing. Then I played it at work where my co-worker was literally just finishing reading Illuminatus Trilogy. He said "Did they just say Ancients of Mu Mu?" then he just started laughing and the rest is history. Next day picked up Shag Times, Chill Out and 1987 (boot) and we studied them for other info/clues. Great fun those days. -paul

That was quite a find! My collection story isn't quite so impressive, but it's still dear to me - finding a huge pile of old vinyl, CDs and cassettes in a second-hand record shop in Dundee and managing to fill out half my collection with it. I first encountered the KLF in 1988 with the Timelords, and then began buying up their stuff when I went to university in 1992. I loved Doctorin the Tardis when it came out and of course then the singles from the WHite ROom. My father picked up the Vinyl of Shag Times and put it on to tape for me (AFAIK it is still in his record collection and hasn't been played since... I will have to wait to inherit it because I know he won't just give it to me!!) Got a taped copy of TWR from a friend of Dad's then found the 12" of Doctorin for $1 a few years later.... since then I have picked up a few cds and also the vinyl of the History of the Jams. I certainly haven't found anything rare!! I have a variety of KLF stuff in the Itunes music library on the computer so hear it quite regularly and am not sick of any of it yet!! What I would love to know is what version of TWR I got on the cassette tape - as it's only a copy - but it is different to all of TWRs that I have on CD. TO be honest it's a long time since I did comparisons and I can't remember which bits but I know that it is different. Am I right in thinking there are three or four different versions/mixes of TWR around? I have the Arista one, also 2 liberation CDs one has #02 in the runout and the other has #03. I don't think there would ever be a problem of getting hold of the generic in house sleeve, but to run off an extra 100 on a 250 batch would be near impossible. What tends to happen is that there is either pare vinyl after a run, or a run is cut short but a few, this is wear the pressing plant guys get to work. Your always going to have spare sleeves and labels around. But in the case of a while label, no problem, just pop it into an in house sleeve. So many boots, are only really boots as they are not officially counted in the pressing run.
