Construction Update

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users. The construction company, in order to asphalt the parking lot for the new building, has dug up the two trenches crossing the south parking lot at the marina. The trenches are about 3" deep and should pose little problem for most vehicles. There are some boards across the trench for you to use. The trenches will be asphalted on Monday. That should be the end of the work in the parking lot except for re-striping the whole lot. I will send an email out as soon as we know the date of the striping. Obviously we will need to close off sections of the parking lot for that. As for Monday asphalting, please use the north parking lot on Monday if you are planning on a trip to the marina. Our phone lines are down (again). Because of this you will not be able to call out here. Nor will we be able to process credit card payments through the weekend. Sorry for this inconvenience. Changing Slips

GSL Slip Renters, We have had some problems out here lately with people changing slips and not notifying us. This creates a problem because we have rented out slips where someone has changed without prior approval. PLEASE request permission to switch slips PRIOR to moving. Also, you must notify us when you pull your boats and want to cancel your contracts. If you do not notify us that you have pulled your boat and do not intend to occupy a slip anymore we will continue to charge you for that slip. PLEASE notify us when you want to cancel your contracts. In the last two months we have had a rash of occurrences of the above. Thank you Harbormaster

GSL Slip Renters. It appears it was a great holiday weekend for all. Many went up to Antelope Island Marina for a very colorful and boisterous Saturday evening dockside. Others went to White Rock Bay to watch the hot air balloons and fireworks. And others went up to the springs off Fremont Island. I know I did. It was the highlight of my summer to once again swim in the springs for the first time in 12 years. Many of you took pictures. Trailers

GSL Slip Renters If you have a trailer in the parking lot or in one of the two storage lots and you do not have a contract to store it here, it must be removed by the end of Monday. Construction begins in the unsecured lot and I have to make room to temporarily move trailers for those who have contracts. If there are trailers that are still here on Tuesday and you do not already have a contract, the trailer will be towed. Sorry, no exceptions.

Anchorage, Cruse, Race

GSL Slip Renters, I know many of you are thinking of participating in the Governors Cup race to Antelope Island this weekend. Others of you are planning on cruising up to White Rock Bay for the Balloon Fest and Fireworks show. I have included a new anchorage on www.gslmarina.com It is of the springs off Fremont Island. This would make a great day sail on Sunday. Just go to www.gslmarina.com and highlight the Resource tab then click on the Nav tab. To the White Rock Cruisers: I will have anchorage instructions for White Rock up on the web site by tomorrow evening. To the racers and cruisers who plan on utilizing the Antelope Island Marina. I have included in this email a map of the marina along with recommended docking and anchoring areas. The race buoy (Finish for Saturday and start for Sunday) is an orange buoy located at 41° 03.780 x 112° 21.225 The buoy is about 5 nautical miles west of the marina entrance. The reason I kept it away from the marina is to keep the deeper draft boats from running aground on the Buffalo Reef Complex. This also sets you up for a good approach across the reef to the marina. After rounding the buoy TO STARBOARD, head east keeping yourself at least ¾ mile north of Egg Island as you pass it. Keep sailing until you can clearly see the flag pole of the Ranger Memorial. From here you should be able to see the entrance to the marina. If you have any questions about approaching the marina go to www.gslmarina.com Follow the instructions above to get to NAV page where you can find the instructions for Antelope Island Marina Approach and follow the waypoints AIM8 through AIM12. This should keep you in relatively deep water over the reef and keep you well clear of Egg Island. See the instructions below the map for anchoring and docking. Antelope Island Marina 1.png There is a hump just outside the marina. Take it slow over the bump but there should be enough water to cross it. The mouth of the marina is plenty deep. On the above map you will see two circles with Shallow written in them. Keep clear of these areas. It IS shallow. The blue circle is plenty deep for anchoring if the docks fill up. The dock to the west has two red lines marking shallow slips. Again, they ARE shallow. The further out slips have plenty of water as does the end tie on this dock. The eastern dock has a fair amount of water throughout. The deeper draft boats will need to use the northern end of the dock (east or west side is fine). The shallower draft boats will be able to get all the way in. Do not go down the center between the two docks. There are several shallow areas that are rock. Keep close to the east dock as you go down to select your slip. There is a reciprocity agreement with Antelope Island so you will not have to pay slip rent. The rangers are expecting you. They will be monitoring VHF marine band 16. Cell phone coverage is pretty good at the marina but almost non-existent at White Rock Bay. There is NO reciprocity agreement for bringing cars across the causeway. If you have a ride coming out to pick you up, they will have to pay the standard entrance fee. Hazard to Navigation & Power Shut-off

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users. Promontory Marina was hit with very strong winds and possibly a tornado last night. They have sustained damage. The Harbor Master for Promontory suspects that some debris from the marina may have blown into the lake. Much of this debris is floating debris. If the debris made it into the lake it will be carried into the main body of the lake by the Bear River current and could create a hazard to navigation. Be extra vigilant for the next few weeks when venturing out. Report any debris you may encounter so that it can be removed. The power to the Great Salt Lake Marina will be out all day tomorrow. This is being done so that we can replace the main power transformer. Sorry for the late notice. Harbor Master (the GSL Marina Harbor Master)
