Can't get it to work

I was using Fractint back in the late 80's. I Just tried to D/L a windows 7 version and unpacked it. I cant find a working exe file. I just get an error message saying it cannot open the file. It tells me it won't work in a 64bit environment. Help Dean

FOTD -- May 03, 2011 (Rating 9) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I was recently surprised when Brian found a minibrot in a scene that I had assumed and stated held no minibrots. As is so often the case in the world of fractals, things are not always as they seem. Knowing that minibrots were in the scene even though the (apparently flawed) 'fmod' method had indicated they were not, I made an old-fashioned search by locating areas of 2-way symmetry and zooming into the center. The old-fashioned way soon led to today's minibrot and image. I named the image "Most Unexpected", not because the minibrot was unexpected, but because the round-cornered square is unlike anything I have perviously stumbled upon in a fractal image. The image was given extra excitement by rendering it with the outside set to 'tdis'. When I found an acceptable color palette, the final result rated a lofty 9. Part of the rating expresses my pleasure at finding that there are more minibrots in fractals than I had previously assumed. Of course, since I have always assumed the number of minibrots is infinite, it is hard to explain how that number can be increased. (Almost anything done to infinity equals only more infinity.) FOTD -- December 30, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Start with Z^2, subtract Z^3, add Z^4, subtract Z^5 then add C on each iteration. The result is a fractal with a mis-shapen main bay and several large sub-bays. Large period-2 buds lie on both the east and west extremities of the parent, with spikes extending outward along the X-axis from both buds. Today's image is located on the spike extending west from the western large bud. Luckily, one of the critical points of today's iterated expression lies at zero, which would have saved some tedious calculation if I had not been curious about other critical points. (A second critical point lies at +0.729323..., which draws a very similar parent fractal. A point of inflection lies at +0.436117..., but this also draws a very similar image.) The name "Diminishing Returns" refers to the nature of fractals. The most interesting Mandeloid is created by raising Z to the power of 2. As the exponent of Z is increased, the Mandeloids start to look ever more similar, and by the time we reach Z^100, there is almost no difference in the overall appearance or in the smaller details. In short, the law of diminishing returns kicks in, and the fractals start to all look the same. The same law of diminishing returns applies to the magnitude. As we go deeper into a fractal such as the Mandelbrot set, the minibrots we find grow ever more interesting at first, but at a magnitude around 10^25 they begin to all look the same, and by the time we reach 10^100, with some few exceptions, little but nearly identical concentric circles surround the minibrots. The same diminishing returns appear as we pile on various powers of Z. Today's parent fractal combines four different powers of Z in each iteration, yet the image falls far short of some of the images created by the MandAutoCritInZ formula, which combines only 2 different powers. Out of curiosity, I have written formulas that pile on up to 15 different powers, only to discover that, once again, the fractals all start to look the same. The rating of a 7 is near FOTD average, but the calculation time of 12 minutes is too high a price to pay for a merely average image. Luckily, rescue from boredom may be found at the FOTD web sites. FOTD -- December 29, 2011 (Rating ?) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The rating of today's FOTD image is a question mark. I'm not sure how to rate it. I think this is the first FOTD image to actually make the breakdown of definition its main feature. The magnitude of 4*(10^9) is not all that great, but something like a quantum uncertainty principle must exist in Julia sets, which prohibits any trick that might reveal detail beyond the standard Mandelbrot magnitude limit of 10^12. Actually, such attempts merely shift the decimal point rather than add the imaginary extra precision of extra decimal places to the math. Curiously, when today's image is calculated by the standard math routine used by the type=julzpower formula, the breakdown is notably more severe. Today's image is actually part of one of the Julia sets of yesterday's image. This parent Julia set is filled with variations of today's scene, some of which are worth FOTD status in themselves, and might appear in a future FOTD. The name "Total Breakdown" exaggerates the situation quite a bit. A total breakdown would be either a flat color covering the screen or a screen full of featureless fractal sand. The calculation time of 1-3/4 minutes is reasonably brief for an image whose rating is a mystery. Those who do not enjoy mysteries yet do enjoy fractals may view the finished image on the FOTD web site at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> The high-definition version posted at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> will reveal even more of the breakdown of precision, though I doubt that any new stuff will be revealed. Perfect resolution may be achieved only by calculating the image with the type=julzpower formula, which does support arbitrary precision math. But doing this will increase the calculation time from seconds to days. Interesting to read the colour map, something seem to be sending word every know and then. here we get trust and Tutu. Tutu is the name i select for the best mathematic E.T. <to inject fun in it>... seek for tutu on internet and find a funny relation about a hard on mathematic creature. sO Has a accidental report, i should add that i get a new printer spouler and did print a document. System valid on both computer. My watch stop at 8:44:45 exactly, probably my cell, anyway she is insured. My system is almost ready, missing a valid screen driver, until then i will stay red and black... mayby i keep it like this......I find a robot to plug on a bick to a computer screen and ctrl the screen with the sport-action... 500$ used *score* leave you the link sometime* have a nice frame. FOTD -- December 28, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: We're once again quite busy here at FC, which means another brief discussion. With today's FOTD we drag ourselves from the morass of rating-6 land into the everyday world of rating-7 land. The parent fractal is the almost-Mandelbrot set created by the expression Z^(2.0001)+C. On the surface, this parent resembles an everyday Mandelbrot set, and most areas are indistinguishable from a M-set. Things are different however along the negative spike, which is infinitely divided. Today's scene is located just east of a small minibrot well beyond the large minibrot. This small minibrot is partly split apart, with today's image lying in a tiny valley, not the usual east Valley, where the X-axis enters the main bay. The elements here closely resemble the elements found around the curious rectangle in the Z^(2.003)+C Mandeloid, though so far I have found no rectangles. I named the image "Holey Iterations" not because I'm a fan of the original Captain Marvel, (which I am), but because of the holes that fill the scene. The calculation time of 2 minutes is an educated guess, but still quite close to the time that would have been required on the now defunct 2000mhz unit. One two tree...on, off, on. My dos_emulator (dos-box) have funky reaction but i still can develop and appreciated the development of other. Rationality is summoned... guess that i should film my screen. FOTD -- December 27, 2011 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Things turned unexpectedly busy here at FC today, which cut short the time for a proper FOTD. But despite the rush I found a fractal image in the East Valley area of the parent fractal, which was created by combining 2 parts of Z^(1.1) with Z^(2.2) and adding plain C on each iteration. This parent fractal is a curiously distorted Mandelbrot set with several areas that look promising. But with the rush still in progress, I have no time to describe this parent. It is easily enough checked however. The image has little mathematical or artistic worth, which relegates it to the humble group of FOTD fractals with a lowly rating of a 6. The name "Temporary Insanity" describes occasional conditions here at FC more than the image. The calculation time of 1-1/2 minutes will pass swiftly, though it will be simpler to view the image on one of the web sites than to set up and calculate the included parameter file. Inutile de dire que la reaction de Jim Muth est un peu haute pour l'americain moyen...Disons high,high,high!!(ho,ho,ho) cependant il y a usage a n'importe quel niveau avec une base de choix. Voila le lien choisi a cette reaction 555. J'estime qu'il le savais(555=timer) et maintenant le probleme ses glisser sous la fonction random que personne n'utilise jamais sois dit en passant (vraiment noisy). dommage cependant si elle avait fonctionner j'aurais pus avoir la position angulaire du mandel brot relative a mon timer interne 555(so get it! idea!). apres vous avoir lue! I'am the one size fit all... The probleme end up on the function srand that i use everytime Jim send a 0.555 fractal i whanted to have the angular position of mandelbrot relative to my intern time, blasted. I imagine idea someone may received the resulte can now see positive ion pass thru a windows, reaction equivalent to all the computer beteween us i guess. Lot's of impotent one. One formulae pass thru the noise to be noted 4:Root 5^-13-j^-1^x/i more or less leaving j x and i undetermined or determined else where in the screen. Or is it cause of the monkey ? Cynergia nature think one way, intelligent and behavioral another.
