Once it has been displayed, use the <b> key to "save current parameters" to a PAR file with a image name matching the loaded GIF file. 3. Once the parameters have been saved to disc, use the <@> key to "run saved command set". You will need to navigate to the PAR file and choose your named image. 4. Now, use the <DEL> key to make choice of the SFn SuperVGA video modes, such as SF5 or SF6. 5. If this works, then try some of the other higher resolutions available. I was able to easily get 1024 x 768 @ 256. But this machine I used would not go further without resorting to Disk Video Mode. NY1 who can? Is it possible to get a fractint map that shows gold-silver-copper colors, so the fractal would look metallic? I have tried, failed and given up. I don't mean grey and brown - I mean metallic. Is it possible? Also, I have upgraded and posted the E+89 mandelbrot zoom. It is extended, runs longer, and is 2 long slow sequences instead of 7 short fast ones like before. Also much better colors. A much better viddie I think, I have replaced the original. JoTz

Dave, thanx 4 the offer, but I really cant go thru 450 map files! I already have HUNDREDS and I go thru MANY MANY before I ever find a good one, which is why I make my own, even if they arent so good always. If you can select out the metal ones you have, zip and email to me. If I use one in an animation I will sure give you credit. JoTz

Today's image is a scene in the oversized fractal that results when various negative portions of Z^(-1.15) and Z^(-11.5) are combined and (1/C) is added. After consideration, I rated it at a 6. I gave it no name other than its date of appearance. The render time of over 38 minutes on my 11-year-old fractal machine is admittedly slow. FOTD -- July 05, 2006 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image rates a 7 -- not bad for only the third fractal after the resumption of the daily FOTD schedule. I have not yet decided to resume naming the FOTD fractals, so fractal fans will have to be make do with the date as a name. Their dis-satisfac- tion should not be too great. One picture is said to be worth a thousand words, which means that one evaporated fractal should be worth at least ten words. Today's fractal is indeed an evaporated one, which means that all the escaping 'outside' parts have vanished, leaving only trapped 'inside' stuff. But as today's image shows, trapped 'inside' stuff can be made quite interesting. Today's all-inside scene was brought to life by rendering it with the inside option set to 'bof61', by far the best inside option to use with evaporated fractals. The parent fractal was created by combining various portions of Z^(-1.5) and Z^(-11.5) before adding (1/C). The render time of just under 8 minutes is marginally slow, but the wait may be avoided by downloading the completed GIF image from the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Cloudy, warm and muggy weather, with a temperature of 84F 29C, accompanied by intermittent showers made conditions less than ideal for the big Independence Day fireworks displays here at New Fractal Central. The noise of the illegal firecrackers kept the fractal cats hiding under the bed for most of the day. They were reluctant to come out even when they heard the can of tuna open, but hunger eventually won out, and they cautiously reappeared to ask for their treats. But despite the minor annoyances, my day was enjoyably relax- ing. I actually found a couple hours with nothing to do but watch the shuttle launch on the NASA TV channel. Too bad I'll never have the chance to go into space, but neither will 99.99999..... percent of the other people on earth. Seeing so much energy expended for such a small result makes me glad that fractals consume almost no energy. WHY anyone uses real player for anything is a question for a better philosopher than I. Try RIGHT click the file, you should see a menu with "play with" or "open with" etc. Choose windows media player. If it opens a file, and it needs a codec, and you are online at the time, it will automatically download it (usually from microsoft) and install. Unless you have disabled this feature, in which case you should un-disable it. It was hard encoding this viddie, it is "too complex" and the codec used was the only one that worked, the same one used for the universe viddies.

FOTD -- July 04, 2006 (Rating 4) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: With today's image I have resumed rating the FOTD images. The rating of a 4 is not a very impressive start, but it is better than no rating at all. In a few days, if all goes well, I will resume naming the images. I actually seem to have gotten a bit rusty during the several months we were occupied with moving Fractal Central. The images seem to be fighting me. No longer do they come almost automati- cally. But I am sure it will be only a short time before I am back in top fractal-finding form and writing philofractal discus- sions worthy of an avatar. Today is not that day however. The notably unimpressive image pictures a midget in the Z^(sqrt(2))+C Mandeloid as it appears 16 levels up the unending logarithmic ladder. If I had named the image, I would likely have named it "Splat". The overall impression is one of a paint-ball splatter. I used only the most basic rendering method. Any fancy stuff would have been wasted on an image with this degree of chaos. The 7-minute render time might seem slow to those whose time is important. If so, save time by downloading the finished GIF image from the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Typical summer weather prevailed again here at New Fractal Cen- tral on Monday, with partly cloudy, hazy skies, opressive humidity, and a temperature of 88F 31C. The new fractal cats were unconcerned with weather however, since they do not yet go out. They were more concerned with the occasional fire- cracker that went off in the neighborhood. When the going got too loud, Cassie ducked under the bed; Nico ran to the window to see what all the noise was about. The next FOTD fractal will appear right here in 24 hours. We will try to produce one that rates at least a 5. Until then, take care, and the best way I know to find enlightenment is to start a low-calorie diet.
