Anyone who enjoyed the Tzadik release "I Died Today - Music of Rodd Keith" may well enjoy an upcoming PBS film documentary on the subject of song-poems that touches on the work of my father, Rodd Keith. I'm interviewed in the film and many folks directly connected with the creation of song-poem music (lyricists and musicians) are featured. I think you'll enjoy it, it's very entertaining and casts some light on an almost completely unknown slice of American life. Unofficial Wire Audio Companion update

Hi all, I've been lax over the holidays and more, so the Unofficial Wire Audio Companion (not affiliated with The Wire) has been a few issues behind recently, but I've recently updated it, so music pointers from Nov 2002-Feb 2003 issues have been added, including some of January's Rewind 2002 (best of the year) entries. http://thewire.kargatron.net/ Please note that I'm in as much need of volunteer help as ever. Besides some welcome but scarce help, I compile most of the entries myself, so the site's not nearly as comprehensive as it could be, if more people chipped in - it will only grow as a community effort. Here're my suggestions for possible help, noted also at the site: There are a lot of records reviewed in The Wire each month, and one person cannot find all the audio links that are out there. So you can help make this a much better resource, in a variety of ways: "Adopt a label" - Choose a label or two (your favorites, whatever), and every issue, see if any releases from them are reviewed. Then check to see if the label offers any audio samples - if so, send in the info. This takes very little time, and if enough people did it, it would net a lot of links! "Adopt a month" - Choose a single issue from the year and search for as many links as possible from everything reviewed. This takes a number of hours, of course, but hey, it'd only be once a year! (And of course you'd get listed as compiler for that issue.) "Adopt a review section" - Choose a genre review section (Critical Beats, Jazz & Improv, Outer Limits, etc), and dig up anything from that section each month. Like the above, except a lot smaller scale, so not unreasonable, right? Supply your own - If you have web space and rip mp3s from CDs you own, you can host of few (to which the Companion will point) when reviewed in The Wire Keep an eye out - If you run across some audio links, and you know the releases were reviewed in The Wire, send in the info - one-offs are welcome. Max Neuhaus historic (and controversial) record reissued!!!

Forced Exposure has the following record listed: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SONY (JAPAN): NEUHAUS, MAX: Electronics and Percussion -- Five Realizations CD (SICC 79). Japanese-only reissue of this classic electronics & percussion album, originally issued by Columbia in 1968. First time on CD. Produced by David Behrman, recorded in Feb., 1968; includes a reproduction of the original Max Neuhaus liner notes. Featuring works by Brown, Stockhausen, Cage, Bussotti & Feldman, performed by Max Neuhaus. The pieces are: "Four Systems -- for Four Amplified Cymbals" (Earle Brown; 1954); "The King of Denmark" (Morton Feldman, 1964); "Coeur pour Batteur -- Positively Yes (Sylvano Bussotti, 1959); "No.9 Zyklus for One Percussionist (Karlheinz Stockhausen, 1959); "Fontana Mix -- Feed (John Cage, 1958). This would be considered one of the first "live electronic music" albums and the front cover photo of a bare-chested Neuhaus in front of this percussion kit is one of the unforgettable images of the avant-garde. Neuhaus is better known in recent times for his real-world Times Square sound installation. $29.00 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I don't know how the Feldman specialists rate his interpretation of "King of Denmark" but I have never been able to forget it and was still desesperatly looking for something approaching it (and failed). Hello Zornlisters, I got one question. Quite a while ago someone has put (at the and of his/her message) link to the site with mp3 described (as far as I remember) 'me singing along with 3 laptop players' (???). I've downloaded this track. But since then I've lost all the info about it. I got the track - titled 'SET1', but I got no info about players (and about the site with few more mp3s). So if you're so kind - please send me link to proper site or provide me with the info (I really got no time to search through the archives!). I know, such request is a kind of wasting bandwidth, so please answer me privately. hello all, was checking out this reviewhttp://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/a/area/revolution.shtml I really tend to want to pick up anything that this guy reviews, a nice departure from the mainstream of pitchfork writers. Can anyone second Area as essential to pick up? I am not a prog freak, but I do appreciate drawing on lots of music, I never listen to lyrics either.
