You are way lacking in early Prince, so need to play catch-up! I'd say every album from PRINCE through LOVESEXY contains defining moments and would generally be deemed 'essential' by Prince aficionados. It is not your CD player. It seems like another example of Knitting Factory Records just plain screwing up royally (in the tradition of printing "No Saftey" on one of their releases' CD spines, mislabeling tracks left and right, etc.). Even then, knowing KFW's track record, I was still kind of amazed that such a glaring error could have been committed and that nobody caught it ... While I was going through my CD collection to put the non-essential stuff on eBay, I recently rediscovered Miles Davis' "Dark Magus", which I now think is one of his finest albums. Does Columbia Legacy have any plans to re-issue "Agartha" and "Pangaea"? Frankco

You might be able to still order the vinyl directly from the label, Locust, but they were charging $35 for it. If you don't want to get into buying a lot of CDs or spending a lot of money on music, it may be best to avoid getting into this group. They have tones of albums that are all over the map. Many people will try to tell you that "330,003..." or "Torch of the Mystics" are the definitive albums by them (or the best introductions), but I don't think there is a definitive album, just by definition of what kind of group they are. Of what is available, the later Carnival Folklore Resurrection volumes give some idea of their diversity and are pretty consistently good, especially 9/10 (Hi Asia/Lo Pacific), 8 (The Handsome Stranger ... it's great, DESPITE what Aquarius Recs might try to tell you), and to a lesser extent 6 (Sumatran Electric Chair) and 7 (Libyan Dream). Bright Surroundings, Dark Beginnings is also good and still in print I think. Still waiting for someone to get back to me about trading OOP SCG stuff -- I have a few hard-to-find things I would be willing to copy for someone who would be interested in doing the same.... Hi everyone, I just heard about this band, Lemon Juice Quartet, that was commissioned by Zorn 2 month ago to arrange and record one of his Masada tunes for a Tzadik compilation album. It sounded really good. Crazy stuff. They did Peliyot, if anybody knows it...cool tune. They are playing at Tonic (NYC) at Jan 28, 10PM. I will try to check it out. experimental late fahey

The December Wire Tapper includes a gorgeous electric John Fahey cut that sounds like nothing else from him that I've heard. According to the notes, it's from a forthcoming Revenant release. I followed him through the early Takoma/Vanguard years, but my tastes changed and I didn't pay much attention to him (or any other acoustic music) after the early 1970s. We picked up his album Rain Forests & Oceans (with an interesting two-guitar version of Layla), but I'd be interested in reading about Fahey's experimental side in other more recent releases. Used Record Pile question

Hello, ....one of my holiday gifts was Camper Van Chadbourne's "Used Record Pile". It lists 16 songs, which are all on the disc, but my CD player reads that it has 8 tracks, with some tracks including up to four of the songs listed. Has anyone else who owns this disc experienced this problem, or is it possibly my CD player? Thanks in advance. I remain...
