On Monday night's Free Association radio program, I'm excited to welcome very special guest, NYC bassist/composer/bandleader Steve Tintweiss into the studio. Perhaps best known for his ground-breaking work with titan Albert Ayler, Steve Tintweiss has been recording and performing in the avant-garde for over thirty years, with Patty Waters, Frank Wright, Burton Greene, Sam Rivers, and countless others. We'll be listening to and walking through a newly uncovered recording of Albert Ayler's performance at the Maeght Foundation performance in St Paul de Vence, France in July 1970. We believe this recording was aired only once before in the States at WKCR last month. Monday's airing will be the second broadcast of this concert in the States. Prepare yourself for a singular, jaw-dropping performance that is in many ways unique to any other Ayler recording you have heard. Steve Tintweiss will be sharing his recollections after each piece in what should be a memorable program. We will also be hearing music from Steve Tintweiss' current projects, including his SpaceLight Band, featuring Perry Robinson, Lou Grassi, and Amy Sheffer. This program airs on Monday night at 8:00pm within the context of the Free Association radio program on WZBC 90.3 FM at Boston College. Rivers and Tides

There was a good article in today's Chronicle about "Rivers and Tides" and its filmmaker Thomas Riedelsheimer. There's an interesting chapter about her in the book "Percussion Profiles". Anybody have anything to add about her work? I have never read an interview with zorn where he was so honest and relaxed. What he had to say about the nature of the artist and creative expression are what I needed to hear.
