Hello, Several people asked for a list of all of the BYG / Actuel titles that have been issued in the United States by Fuel 2000. Now Pharoah, that would have been something else entirely... Wonder what else Ravi Coltrane's got kicking around in the closet and under the bed (which is where most of these new tapes are coming from)? SPK samples used on JOHN ZORN releases, etc

I don't know if any other sharp-eared people noticed that the start of SPK's "Ground Zero : Infinity Dose" (from "Information Overload Unit") was sampled on "Propolution" (track 9 of "Nani Nani"). John Zorn also used the same sample (albeit more of) on "Artemisia Absinthium", track 5 of Naked City's "Absinthe" album. SPK are named in the list of influences, etc, on the inlay of Naked City's "Radio" album. And of interest perhaps, whilst Butthole Surfers are being interviewed in bed on the "Blind Eye Sees All" VHS, if you listen closely during the second or third interview segment, you can hear they are listening to "Emanation Machine R. Gie 1916", the first track on SPK's "Information Overload Unit". Hi all, Anyone into Brazilian bossa/MPB, specifically the work of superb singer/guitarist Nara Leão? I'm clearing out FIVE NEW (100% mint) Japanese discs... some of her absolute best material from 1964 to 1971. All are remastered, and come with OBI strips. # Nara Leão - "Nara (1964)" JAP CD (Philips: PHCA-4217) 1998/1964 # Nara Leão - "O Canto Livre De Nara" JAP CD (Universal: UICY-3080) 2000/1965 # Nara Leão - "Vento De Maio" JAP CD (Mercury: PHCY-3005) 2000/1967 # Nara Leão - "Nara Leão (1968)" JAP CD (Philips: PHCA-4230) 1998/1968 # Nara Leão - "Dez Anos Depois" JAP CD (Philips: PHCA-4211) 1998/1971 "Dez Anos Depois" is exquisite, with a real Euro feel as she does the "classics". "1968" is her Tropicalia album (wonderful arrangements). The rest, esp. her debut, and "O Canto..." are simply prime bossa from the era of early Astrud Gilberto. I saw "Killer Joey" in Seattle a couple years back. The show was incredible. Tony Scherr is a great live player (from Sex Mob fame). I bought a cd at the show. It was a little disappointing because it was pretty much straight-up jazz and funk. Baron didn't get too crazy on the recording.
