Whilst trying to avoid doing some work I put a list on Amazon.co.uk of 'Interesting Female singer-songwriters from Northern Europe who weren't Bjork'. I chose: Sidsel Endresen Stina Nordenstam Anja Garbarek Solex Susanne Abbuehl Laub I have to say I chose these for the music and not specifically for their voices. As for a PJ Harvey recommendation I still love her first 'Dry' for its rawness, energy and brilliant drumming by Rob Ellis. Anything by Throwing Muses, or ex-Throwing Muse Kristen Hirsh. I wasn't a big fan of her stepsister-bandmate Tanya Donnely's first post-Muses work, either solo or w/ Belly, but Tanya's new one is fascinating and beguiling. If your friend doesn't have an aversion to twang, Iris DeMent's vocals are strikingly distinctive and her first two albums, Infamous Angel and My Life, are wonderful. Her third, The Way I Should, is rather tiresome, she tries to get all topical and anthemic. Parry

The last Laurie Anderson live is terrific, but if you want to buy a PJ's album the best is "Is this desire" but also the last one is really good "Stories from the city, stories from the sea". Have you ever listened the Robin Holcomb's works? Perhaps they could please you, expecially the last one "The big time", really particular. And Diamanda Galas? She is realllllyyyy particular, but great. Others could be Shelley Hirsch, Mari Boine (ethnic), Anya Garbarek, Portishead, Lamb, Natasha Atlas (also with Transglobal Underground)... Bye Leo

The 4 plus 1 Ensemble's second CD, 'From A Window' is on Avant. Contrary to rumor, Julian Priester DOES play on it, and Skerik as a special guest. Julian was sick and could not go on a tour of Europe, but he recovered and recorded the CD as well as appearing in the group's appearances last year. If 'From A Window' isn't available from your local shop, it's easily available at Amazon, or at DMG I imagine, or I'd be willing to sell you one at very attractive price via Wayne's website, www.waynehorvitz.com. Unfortunately Wayne's website is down right at the moment - technical difficulties. I expect to have it running again by tomorrow though. I am reeling from this year's timeberne releases, what happened? First opencoma, then science friction, now the sevens, he sure knows how to inspire money spending. I just thought I would comment on how badass and different science friction is, I cannot tell taborn and ducret apart on most of the tracks, not to mention rainey wailing, the man has to be psychic or something. Hey all, This is my first post here. I am a BIG Eyvind Kang fan. I have all of his Tzadik cd's, and Sweetness of Sickness, Secret Chiefs 3 and Dying Ground. I am looking for recommendations on other good Kang or Kang associatted releases.
