yeah, I too just caught Bump at Yoshi's and thought it was excellent. The writing and playing were both superb.....a great balance of elements: groove, freedom, repetition, silence, etc....Ep(isod)ic pieces that really go somewhere, often ending in a totally different place from where they began. Bobby played a great brand new piece called 498 Soul, to be included on the album the band will record next week. and, speaking of Zappa...there is a nice selection on Previte's electronic sampler CD that is reminiscent, at the outset, of "Playground Psychotics"-- an amusing field recording made on tour featuring Bobby's inquiry about a hotel's hot tub. Evolver is a sub-label of Instinct, which bought the Knitting Factory label a few months ago. Other Evolver artists include the Rayond Scott Orchestrette and Tony Allen. Go to www.instinctrecords.com and then click on catalog, and you'll see the listings. I haven't heard the Buckley/Lucas, but I find it vaguely disquieting not so much that the Buckley exhumation continues, but that producer Hal Wilner evidently recorded new backing tracks for several songs using Bill Frisell and Sex Mob.
