Rene, Northen parts of The Netherlands. Unfortunatly 32 years of age, Chevrolet Beretta owner. I once saw a Derrick episode (1985) that featured Desire. In my school agenda (Dutch translation) I had a picture of Yello. later on vacation in Germany, while sitting in my parrents 1968 white Mercedes 220 with black hardtop, I heard Desire again, and imagined to be a detective, driving a white mercedes. In 1987 (I think) I listened to a Dutch Radio Station and heard dr. van Steiner and the Rhythm Devine. I taped it, and got hooked. next day I went to the library to rent the LP. I taped it and later on I bought One Second. Then came Solid pleasure and more. Again I went to germany on holidays and was playing One Second on my beautiful Silver 3000 mini getto blaster. Driving my parents insane in their dying white Mercedes. A little later I finally got my first keyboard/synth and learned to play some melodies of Yello. I bought an old Tandberg tapedeck and with my brand new Yello LP, Flag I made my first remix of Tied Up. (crappy but inventive). Yello seemed out of place. I couldn't fit it anywhere, couldn't put it in a box and lable it. It remained yello and everything else was the rest. Yello became one with my soul. After having everything on Vinyl (or so I believed) I bought the lot again on CD (the albums). I bought the CD Video's, every vinyl single I could find in the discount sections of more and more commercialize record stores. Friends went on the lookout for yello maxi's and brought them with them for me as a present. Just to see me smiling from ear to ear and forgetting about anything, and just looking at the cover and smelling it. I went to a record store where you could rent LP's. I found Live at the Roxy, rented it, and came back the next day, begging the guy behind the desk, to sell me the record. I got on my knees, and told him I wouldn't leave without the record. He gave in, and sold it to me, in spite of the fact that it was a very popular record in the rental circuit. I was happy. And next thing I know, I'm on this list and find that I'm not alone, and while searching the net for info on yello, I discover more and more of the world behind Yello, a world that has bits of string tied to more that I could ever imagine. I'm doomed, but with pleasure. Rene
Shaun here, and one of several Aussies on the list. 29yo, and found yello with the video clip for Oh Yeah. since then it's been prety stedy round trip of trying to tell people who yello are, thanks to zero local record company and radio support. The TV Program Rage, which plays non stop video clips in the wee-small hours of Saturday and Sunday morning has been the only occational tv dose of Yello. The odd snippet in the various movies they have contributed to as well is always nice. FYI the last Yello album to be released here was Hands on. Thank god for the internet. ebay for those interested is a nice place to pick up lp's for those looking. I am aware, as i'm sure the rest of us are of the bootlegs, but there's still plenty out there. I supose we all are a bit funny in what we listen to. Aside from a nice yello collection, Prince, Michal Jackson and Weird Al Yankovic are also dominant in my collection. A prety varied mix there ;) Shaun Turner. -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces@mailman.xmission.com]On Behalf Of graeme Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2003 7:39 PM To: yello@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Yello] where are we all from? Snap snap and snap! :oD I come from the north east of England also, 26 years old though, first heard (or realised I was listening to) back in '88 also what my older brother was collecting all their stuff, I didn't start myself until around '91, the release of 'Baby', 'Sweet Thunder' encouraged me to explore their works a bit more myself and since then have been a proper fan. All, Paul, 31 Y/O, from Columbus, Ohio, USA. EXTREME hard core mac user. I wouldn¹t even know how to turn on a PC. Nothing against them personally it¹s just that in my line of work (film/video editing) PC¹s don¹t have a history in the pro world. First heard Oh Yeah in Ferris Beuler, but didn¹t fall in love with it. Then shortly after that I had to videotape and edit a wedding video. At the reception they played Oh Yeah, which seems to be a favorite among wedding DJ¹s, during the cheesy bouquet toss and whatnot. In order to edit that all together I needed to get that song. So I went and bought the Essential CD, just for Oh Yeah, but I fell in love with all the songs (except Oh Yeah, which I¹ve never been a big fan of) and immediately bought all the Yello albums I could find and I¹ve been hooked ever since. Looking forward to their new album, and JW¹s book. Many thanks go out to all those who¹ve created wonderful Yello websites and to GCR for opening up the online floodgates for the rare stuff. PaulH
