Well I have managed to get my hands on Yello - The Eye CD having listened to some of the snippets before hand, I can highly recommend buying this CD as the short 30 second samples heard already give nothing away at all really of how the whole tracks sound which surprised me, as there were lot's of surprises on this album . The tracks are really multilayered and Jade Davies voice really does sound like Billy Mackenzie in places whether this is intentional or purely accidental is not bad thing, it gives Yello's songs that extra edge Nervous, Junior B are my favourite tracks, Junior B takes me back to that 'Fat Cry/drive/driven' type filmic songs with pulsing bass , the cinematic choir pads, with echo guitars are also back, after missing on motion picture and pocket universe I would say this is more of a song album, than experimental journey into space like the last 2. Which is when I like Yello at their best, combining inovation with film song structure. Tiger Dust is the most fun Yello song for years, it is so funky and exciting, I don't wish to make comparisons much with past albums because what Yello do best is come up with something new everytime, if you enjoyed bubbling under you will adore Tiger Dust. "Feelin like I do I feel very very High a booola boola boola" Hipster's Delay is just begging to be in a spy movie, or French car advert , the one thing that struck me with this album was , where on earth does Boris get these sounds from, they are unlike anything you will ever hear anywhere else, completely new and surprising, stuttering and exploding, panning left to right, and back again, echoing into the distance, then bouncing back at you. Magic. Time Palace and Unreal are lush , moving songs soaked in reverb the bass on Unreal is well... Unreal! it hooks you in on a hypnotic journey This album has something for everyone, Film music, bongo's , electronic dance, rio carnival, trumpets but where's the sax? ;o) 9/10 Daniel B

I'm pretty sure the lyrics are "Felling like a Buddha felling very very high" On Friday, October 10, 2003, at 02:24 PM, Daniel B wrote:

ah yes it does sound like that listening again, the stuttering affect makes it hard to tell some of the lyrics I noticed several of the songs Boris has cut up the vocals and they stutter missing out letters of the speech you can still tell what they say though, clever stuff danb ----- Original Message ----- From: Julian To: The moon: beautiful. Well Daniel, I wonder if you (or any one else) read my review of The Eye some time ago... Opinions can differ... Rene ----- Original Message ----- From: Daniel B To: The moon: beautiful. I haven't seen your review, as I've only just returned to the list after 2 years away I guess you don't like Jade Davies or arent keen on her voice, I think this album does offer something for everyone though, I was personally disappointed in Motion Picture, a friend of mine isnt a big fan of the more filmic yello songs, where I am. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rene To: The moon: beautiful. Hi Daniel, Yeah... The voice of Jade is somewhat out of line in the Yello Concept that I know. Atleast in some tracks. And with her appearing in so many tracks I wondered when I listened to the Eye the first time, if it was a Jade Davies album, produced by Yello (Boris). - But then again... I've been listening to the album since I got it. It's good, but it's a different Yello. A Yello I have to get used to perhaps. The Eye is still innovative at some segements... http://mailman.xmission.com/pipermail/yello/2003-August/001217.html Above will link you to my review. I might sound harsh at some points but take in mind I wanted to be objective and not just be blown away by the fact that Yello decidedto come up with a new album and that it is good just because it is Yello... I like her too. I find it refreshing to have such a different (minimally altered, nonelectronic) sound. Lots of bands experiment with widely different sounds, Beatles is probably the easiest example. "Yello (woops, YELLOW) Submarine" could have easily been said to be not standard 'Beatles' compared to "I wanna Hold Your Hand." So what that Yello doesn't follow the norm and manages to grow by adding new voices? isn't that what Yello is about - nonconformance. I mean hey, they do have a belch sampled and played as music, for cryin out loud! p.s. I add a disclaimer because I haven't heard the whole cd yet. I reserve the right to modify my opinion after November 3. Tasha ----- Original Message ----- From: Daniel B To: The moon: beautiful. The sun: even more beautiful.
