Good Afternoon, I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer. Attached is a welcome letter from Kari Malkovich, our new President of Women's State Legislative Council of Utah, announcing the WSLC's programs and dates for the coming year. The next meeting is Wednesday, September 25. Detailed agendas will come to by email before each meeting. This next meeting will be the first for the new 2013-2015 biennium. As such, Kari asked me to also include the new membership forms with this email. We invite you to once again join us for the coming two years of informative sessions and issue discussions. Senator and Mrs. Hatch invite you to the upcoming 27th Annual Utah Women’s Conference Friday, October 11, 2013 Grand America Hotel -- 8:30 am We are thrilled to host former United States Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice as our keynote speaker. As the 66th Secretary of State, she was the second woman and first African American to hold this post. She served under President George W. Bush 2005-2009; and was Assistant for National Security Affairs from 2001-2005. We also welcome Steve Amerson , a featured soloist with major symphonies in the United States and throughout the world, as “America’s Tenor.” His voice can be heard on more than 160 feature films and television shows, and he has shared his considerable talent and time entertaining at various patriotic and military events touching the hearts of many. Additional Conference Speakers include: KUTV2 News anchor Mary Nickles , sharing women's health issues; KSL Radio’s Amy Iverson who will discuss news media to help Utah women organize their busy lives; and Kristin Cox, who at the age of 11 became blind. She overcame challenges making an impact in the workplace. Currently she is the Executive Director of the Utah Governor's Office of Management and Budget. Other Workshops : Getting ahead in professional life, civic participation, health and nutrition, financial planning and many other timely and relevant topics for women. Please share this information others. Registration is limited and will be on a first-come basis.

I am saddened to inform all of you that long-time member, trusted parliamentarian and loyal friend Gretta Baur passed away during the early morning hours on Wednesday August 14. There are no plans at this time for funeral services, but I am told there will be a memorial service for her at a later date. Gretta was a unique individual, and I am certain her sweet smile and sincere commitment to the Utah Women's Legislative Council will be missed by many. Shannon Jacobs
