ATM session this Saturday

Hi U-Aers, I just spoke with Kevin down at Bryce. He is here on Utah-Astronomy but said he's not checked his email for a few days. He confirmed the dates posted here earlier today (25-28 June) for next year's festival and acknowledged that the park's astronomy page (http://www.nps.gov/brca/planyourvisit/astronomyprograms.htm) is a bit 2013-centric and should be updated for the new year in the next few weeks. patrick

Worthwhile astronomy events in 2014

We're building a list of astronomy events that will be of interest to people from SW Utah in 2014. So far I have just two: The Grand Canyon Star Party (June 21-28) and the Great Basin Astronomy Festival (Sept 18-20). Please let me know of other events that would be open to us. Agreed...it took me a while before I actually noticed that some of the images weren't photos. They are stunning! I can't imagine how much time she must have put in. Saw this over on CN. http://guardianlv.com/2013/12/universe-is-going-to-collapse-sooner-than-exp… Another "End of the World" prediction. Well, the end of everything, in this case. Thank you, cosmologists, for giving society one more thing to worry about. To quote the Simpsons, "Let's go burn down the observatory, so this sort of thing never happens again!" ;-)

Chinese Moon landing this morning

Several news outlets are reporting that China's Moon lander is scheduled to touch down this morning. Time quoted is 21:40 Beijing Time which I think works out to 06:40 MST. One report I found says the landing will be covered live on CCTV. That surprises me being that they are so secretive. But if that does turn out to be the case I see CCTV is on the web at: http://english.cntv.cn/live/p2p/index.shtml It is also on Dish Network channel 279. patrick
