Good question, Dion. My feeling is that he was tracking on the stars, not the comet, so that the stars wouldn't show motion. And the comet probably didn't blur much during the nine-plus minutes of the exposures. But I don't know. Please tell us if you learn any more. Tribune Story about Gil Moore and his POPACS Spheres

Hello All, I don't know if anyone is interested, but there was a story on the Tribune website about some satellites that Gil Moore recently managed to get launched. They are known as POPACS Spheres, and they are being used to study the effect of solar events on the density of the upper atmosphere. I have been helping to identify and track the objects with my scope, with some much-appreciated help from Patrick. SLASer Richard Grossen sent me a picture he shot of Comet ISON. Sure puts my anemic efforts at working the comet to shame. And the picture taken in the city (Sandy) no less. observing alert

Hi all; Wanted to let you know that I will be out observing under these really nice fall skies on Friday (11/25/13) at 5 Mile Pass. 5 Mile Pass is closer to SLC than the Pit-N-Pole, and it tends to not get as dewy. The skies are only slightly more affected by light pollution than Pit-N-Pole. I plan on arriving at the site around 18:00 and as the moon rises soon after midnight, it should be a good night to get some fall observing in. Come on out to a relatively dark site and enjoy these beautiful skies! E-mail me for directions to the site we have been using in the 5 Mile Pass area. Take care, Mat P.S. Remember that it gets cold at night this time of year, so avoid shivering your fillings out by bringing appropriate cold weather clothing. Encke & ISON this morning

Aperture is still partially blocked. Moon is still there. I tried single 30" shots but they looked even worse. C-14 @ f/5.5, ST-10, binned 3x3, -10°, clear filter. Time to turn in, patrick
