You're welcome Steve. So far, there has been one person I met at the museum who is very interested in starting in ATMing. No offense to all us older guys, but what is really cool is that there is a great batch of younger folks getting involved. To see the hobby being renewed this way is very satisfying. Please, if anyone out there thinks that they may be interested in making telescopes or parts for a telescope or even fixing your telescope, let me know. Or if anyone knows someone with a possible interest, let them know about the ATM sessions. Transit in progress

We have several telescopes set up in front of the visitor center and have had maybe 150 to 200 people milling around watching the transit. No clouds and I didn't set up my scope for pics as I had intended because of the wind. Saw 1st and 2nd contacts in white light. The black drop effect was very cool and obvious even to a couple of people to whom I described it who knew nothing about the transit. I remember not being able to see the black drop in 2003 with Mercury. Maybe we just didn't have enough magnification on it. Going back outside now. Kim

Garrison Keillor's monologue tonight included a bit about the Venus transit, and it's effect on the younger folks among us. Brought a smile to my face, as his insight has for the last 35 years. Yeah, he got the day and time wrong, but then, it's performance art, not science. Didn't detract from the show, or it's entertainment value one teeny bit. I'm still chuckling. If you missed it, it will be re-broadcast tomorrow (Sunday) starting at 2:00 PM on KUER radio, 90.1 FM. Note that his monologue "The News From Lake Wobegon" won't come on until about 3:33 pm -ish, most of the way through the show. Tune-in a few minutes early, since the Venus transit commentary comes near the beginning of his monologue, and my timing may be off a tad due to the Sunday station break schedule.

Transit of Boeing

Hi all, By sheer luck I got a "transit of boeing" shot with Venus during that 20 minute period before sunset when the transit was below cloud base. I just had my point and shoot through the eyepiece of my Chuck Hard's SunSpotter looking down over the airport from my house near the University, I can't believe my luck! Earlier, for the start of the transit, at the last minute some friends and I drove to Lehi where the GOES VIS showed some clear sky, and sure enough clear sky when we got there, but 45 mph winds. By standing in the lee of an office building, we got the wind-speed down to maybe 10 mph. A few people came out of the office building and I got them in a shot with the SunSpotter, note the wind in the trees in the background. What a time to have a front pass through! That was a nice shot Ian. It’s too bad about the wind and clouds. I didn’t have the clouds down here in southern Utah, but the wind was certainly a factor in the quality of my photographs. A couple of times I thought my equipment would blow away. Dave
