Last night MythBusters "busted" the moon landing conspiracy theories. It was really cool to see how they did it too. Scale models with exact lighting, vacuums and mimicking the moon's gravity to dispel the moon landing conspiracy nuts. It was fun! Jon

Perhaps the saddest thing to me as an educator was the day when a father came in to the school and demanded that his son be removed from science class and be given an alternative assignment because the moon landing was a hoax (we were covering the moon at that time in class). He never met with me to discuss his concerns, he went to the principal who tried to explain that it is important to exposed to all viewpoints and more importantly from all the evidence. The father cut her off pulled out his "binder" and proceeded to try and "inform" her of what the "real" evidence was. In the end his demands were respected being a parent and one of the brightest kids I knew went on believing that 1. The moon landings were faked and 2. Our space program was not real and that the US government continues to fake the space program today. I'm sure he is telling his college son today that these new images are faked, taken from some desert position here on earth . . . We should be grateful that NASA is so forthcoming with information about its activities. The ESA or European Space Agency does not revel nearly as much as NASA does about its activities. Because of this the average European does not support space exploration as much as the average American. Daytime space station sighting

Saw the space station today on a 16:52:44 MDT pass. Az SE (135d (deg)), El 47d using f6 80 mm with 32 mm ocular (approx 15X) and used a polarizer to help with contrast. It went though the field in about 2-3 sec. Could clearly see the "H" shape of the station. More fun with daytime astronomy! Another pass tomorrow at 17:17:42 MDT, Az NNW El 48d. Will try to check out the Jupiter 'impact' tonight. Steve

When the spot transits tonight at 7-21-2009 07:47UT (1:47am), Jupiter will be at az 148 alt 29 for SLC. The CMII system rotates every 09:55 hours or about 2 hours for every 1/4 turn. So the spot should remain visible for another hour or 1 1/2 hours after the transit. Clear Skies - Kurt
