Chuck, I have a mirror cover and a scopecoat but one still needs to exercise caution. I recall at TSP several scopes were toppled over by the wind. Every year someone's scope is damaged at Texas Star Party because of the wind. Star party etiquette for crumb crunchers and parents

I volunteered to give a pre-star party etiquette briefing to a group of K-6 students and their parents, and was going over my notes regarding things that the little tykes and their parents need to know to help make an evening of star gazing more enjoyable for both the kids and adults. Outside of the obvious things like the meaning of "NO" and "STOP", I am at a loss and therefore appeal to the wisdom of the group for further insight as to what else I might say that will help make this event a success. Here is what I have so far: Watch where you're walking. Look with your eyes, not your hands. Don't touch anything. No running, yelling, shoving or fighting. Stay in line, be still and keep quiet. We'll be watching and if we see anyone with their fingers in their nose, they won't be allowed to look throught the telescopes. This should take care of the parents, now what should I tell the kids??? ;) Guy

Big copy scope lens

http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/l3245.html I have mixed feelings about this lens; for about twice the money you could buy a real doublet corrected for infinity; on the other hand I've had good results with most copy lenses, albeit at low to medium magnifications. This might be a way for someone on a budget to get themselves into a 6" refractor relatively inexpensively. If anyone buys this lens, I'd sure like to take a look at it. Head band lights

I seem to remember seeing folks at star parties wearing head bands with red LED lights that are used for chart reading in the dark. Anyone know where I could get such a head band? Thanks, Patrick :-)

Joe, There is a picture of the Green Flash in the latest Sky and Telescope issue. That picture looked a lot clearer than mine. We had morning and evening fog that day. Maybe I'll try from Santa Barbara next summer. It was clearer there than Ventura/Oxnard. If I zoomed in with my digital camera, would this be safe for my eyes since the sun is so close to the horizon? If I go to Lake Powell, I'll look for it. Green Flash

Has anybody ever seen or captured the Green Flash on a film or digital camera? I was looking at my pictures of the sunset from Oxnard Beach but I think it was too cloudy. I'll try again next year. Does the sun have to be over a body of water to see the Green Flash? Clear Skies, Debbie
