NASA TV is currently running the TV coverage of the launch of Apollo 11 in real time. Just like when I watched it those 35 years ago (except there are no annoying non-NASA networks reporters talking over mission control). They just passed T-10:00:00. Patrick

It was just brought to my attention that the map link to Wolf Creek in the latest NOVA is bad by one letter. You are responsible for your own meals on Friday. Stargazing will begin at dusk. Saturday, July 17th, Sleep in from the night before! 9:00 AM – Noon – Lectures/presentations Noon – 1:30 PM – bring and prepare your own lunch 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Lectures/presentations 6:30 – Dusk – Star-B-Q group dinner/activity Dusk until ?? – Stargazing Topics of discussion for lectures/presentations to include: Telescopes & equipment Celestial coordinates and star charts Star clusters / Star forming regions Keeping records of your observing sessions /observing program Beginning astrophotography / CCD imaging Planetary nebulae Double stars Star magnitudes Deep sky search Galaxies Throughout SLAStrofest, the unofficial card game of amateur astronomers, “Spaced Out” will be available to experience. What is it? An event designed to help us enjoy our hobby even more! There will be daytime lectures/presentations followed by evening stargazing to practice what you’ve learned during the day. Topics are listed above. Saturday evening will be the annual club Star-B-Q group dinner/activity for all to enjoy! Where is it? Wolf Creek observing area off Utah highway 35 east of Woodland in the Unita Mountains. At the summit of highway 35, exit at the Wolf Creek Camp-ground. Follow the dirt road to your right 2.5 miles to see the camping/observing area. The road is suitable for 2-wheel drive passenger vehicles. Directional signs will be posted. When is it? Friday evening, July 16th and Saturday, July 17th, 2004. Stargazing will take place both nights. Activities and lectures/presentations will be on Saturday. The camping/observing area will have portable out-houses provided by the club for the convenience of families. Please bring your own camping equipment and water. I'd like to do the same with my 12.5 f8. Siegried told me it is called a Pencet, I believe. If that's not right, I screwed it up, not Siegried. Thanks Joe. I found the Fuji Sensia 400 slide film at Camera Country. By the way, there is a good article in the S&T Jan 99 issue about film. It compared the Professional Ektachrome 200 to the Elite Chrome 200 film. Anybody starting out in astrophotography ought to read this article so they get an idea of the different films out there. It also pointed out the Kodak PJ400 film was excellent for capturing red nebulosity. The article was written by Allen Dyer. Debbie

ISS is making a nice pass over northern Utah tonight (Sunday). It should pass by Arcturus about 22:05, be high overhead about 22:06 and pass by Vega about 22:07. Patrick

Shooting Perseids

I hear the upcoming Perseid meteor shower is going to be good. I'm going to try to take some piggy-back photos on slide film. I'm thinking about Kodak Ektachrome 200 slide film. Can I get it at Inkleys Photo? Or would Fuji Provia 400 be better? I'm going to use my 50mm and 135mm lenses stopped down 1 f stop. Any tips would be helpful. Clear Skies, Debbie
