Shuttle video

My name is Jay Lawson from Sparks, NV. I videotaped the shuttle Columbia Feb 1st as it passed over Nevada. If you have checked out the composite video from NASA or the Rev 15 timeline, I am refered to there as EOC2-4-0026. I have been in contact with several other people in California and Nevada who have provided their tapes to NASA and have had may of the same experiences as some in your group have had. Until Rev 15 came out, it was hard to find where some of the other video tape was taken. I was able to find the names of several people who photographed and videotaped this tragic event, but as yet have not been able to make any direct contact. I would love to be able to make contact with any of the other people in Utah who are listed in Rev 15 or any other folks with photos or tape copies that they might want to trade. I am not trying to do anything funny, but do have a friend who has a video production facility who has put three of our videos on DVD covering from the California coast, through Nevada, over Utah and into Arizona. Some List Info

Well, xmission has upgraded the list software... and, from an admin perspective, it's great. :) It now automatically handles bounced messages, and spam, and posts from people not on the list. Verra nice. I don't think there was any slow down in service when they upgraded. Also, the list is up to 100 members even. Which is fun. I'm glad it's come along and people have found it useful. :) As the prior post said, the best way to manage your membership is through the web interface. http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy From there you can set a bunch of options, a password, and manage your subscription very easily. Oh, and also check out the archives. There are some on the list who's addresses have been disabled, I'll probably check those out in the next while and see if those peeps are still interested in being on the list. Cynthia Sorensen's marriage

Hi group, I just want to pass on to all my friends the very good news that happened last Saturday afternoon. My good friend and co-worker, and our terrific list server administrator Cynthia Sorensen married her boyfriend Aaron Heyman at Tanner Park. It was a small affair with her dogs, Lucy, Levi and Angel hosting the event. A dinner in their honor was held after the ceremony. We should all wish Cynthia Heyman and her new husband all the best. New Horizon's

Does anyone know any information on the New Horizon's mission? That would be really interesting to find out what they find, if it's approved. I hear a lot of mixed comments on it, funding problems, time gate, and other such problems. But I've also heard it's been approved from a few places. Does anyone know what the current status of the mission is? Good page. It makes me wish that I could start now. Luckily I wont have to hog mine out as deep since I want to go with an f/10. One question I have is why do you use a flat for the optical secondary instead of a parabolic 8" mirror? I did like the method he used to keep from turning the edge of the 8" mirror. I am sure that I will need to make both of the big mirrors. I will buy the 1.8" diagonal mirror. For the next couple of weeks I am trying to finish the 16" scope from last year. We are building the box and the cradle tonight. I just checked and the Jeep Safari is the next weekend. We did manage to run into the "Tour Of Canyonlands Bicycle Event" though. Last year we had a marathon (not messier) running down in Moab. I guess it is just a tough time of year because the weather is starting to be nice down there.
