The reason for the construction is that a contractor is going to be out there making the modifications necessary to stripe bike lanes and delineate it as a bike route. There shouldn't be any construction going on in the main part of the road where, as you probably recall, the County re-surfaced the road last summer. Most of the work will involve widening some stretches of shoulder (mostly southbound); reconstructing some drainage grates and replacing them with bicycle-safe grates; shaving off part of an island on southbound Wasatch near 4500 South to allow enough width for a bike lane; installing signage along the bike route; and adding additional striping. The work will be concentrated along the shoulders of the road, so shoulder space may be constricted at times, but the road will remain open.
