Fellow
cyclists,
Starting
next Monday and lasting through about October 21st there will be
periodic road construction on Wasatch Boulevard between Parley's
Crossing and 6200 South. The reason for the construction is that a
contractor is going to be out there making the modifications necessary
to stripe bike lanes and delineate it as a bike route. There shouldn't
be any construction going on in the main part of the road where, as you
probably recall, the County re-surfaced the road last summer. Most of
the work will involve widening some stretches of shoulder (mostly
southbound); reconstructing some drainage grates and replacing them
with bicycle-safe grates; shaving off part of an island on southbound
Wasatch near 4500 South to allow enough width for a bike lane;
installing signage along the bike route; and adding additional striping.
The
work will be concentrated along the shoulders of the road, so shoulder
space may be constricted at times, but the road will remain open.
