Re: RE: [Orb] RE: ADVENTURES - DELUXE RIP OFF!!!
To be honest, I'm not sure that these have been remastered - I honestly couldn't find any information on the sleeve notes (although it was a brief read).
From initial listening, I can hear crackling at the beginning of "Earth (Gaia)" (although that might have something to do with the quality of the "Flash Gordon" sample?) and a glitch at the end of one of the other tracks.
So, has anyone who has listened to the "deluxe" edition actually noticed an improvement in sound quality, especially since it doesn't mention "remaster" on the sleeve/notes? Not that I'm complaining, as it's given me an excuse to relisten to these songs again!

Can someone who pays attention to sound quality ("MP3 sounds as good as CD" = don't bother) comment on the quality of the remastering - mind blowing (a la Rush Signals remaster) or big deal (a la Rush Moving Pictures remaster).
Thanks, T

I haven't got this myself yet, but I've read a comment from some forum about the remaster: <quote> This remaster is awkward. Very awkward. They pumped the volume, which may sound like a good thing, but when you get to the percussive delay section in the middle of "Supernova at the End of the Universe" you'll see the flaw. The delay effect gets louder, and in the original release, the music did not get any quieter to compensate. That's why the album is so quietly mastered originally. Anyhow, on this release, all the volume is pumped up and that delay effect causes the other sounds around it to diminish in volume... So, what I'm tellin' ya is this is not the hottest remaster ever done. </quote> Make what you will of that, he seems to know what he's on about - I'm still undecided if I'll buy it myself since I have originals of the rare tracks, anyway. -GS Nick King <nickwking@ntlworld.com> wrote: To be honest, I'm not sure that these have been remastered - I honestly couldn't find any information on the sleeve notes (although it was a brief read).

I briefly compared Perpetual Dawn from the original and the new release. The only difference I could tell was that it was louder. So just turn your old release up to 11. Keep in mind this isn't a "Remixed and Remastered" release (afaik). & its not some old jazz recording that the higher quality masters have been found and its being put out on DVD audio or SACD. Kinda annoying that no unreleased stuff was added. If they redo uforb, hopefully it will be better. ant _____ From: orb-bounces+albryan=comcast.net@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces+albryan=comcast.net@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Goat Sucker Sent: Wednesday, July 26, 2006 1:12 PM To: orb@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: RE: [Orb] RE: ADVENTURES - DELUXE RIP OFF!!! I despise mp3s. My copy was dispatched from the UK yesterday. I'll see if I can tell a difference when it arrives here in the US. -matt
