Well, ofcourse i cannot blame artists for shifting their musical ability over time, i recognise that because i make music myself too. I can expect you get fed up with the thingyou have been doing for 10 years over and over. That said, i think that the music they used to make was ahaid of its time. It sounds realy blah blah, but look at it, in 89, 90, 91 they were the ones with NEW music, never heard before. Now they repeat what someone else allready published years before. Don't get me wrong, i now how bloody hard it is to come up with some new styles.. As for the live part, i believe the old live stuff was amazing. In those day's there was the inclusion of live bass, drums AND percussion. That was a huge difference. Offcourse they allways rely on there trusty multitrack player and mixing desk (and LX on the wheels) but live players do give that extra feel to it. I think they don't do that anymore for budget reasons.. I've got a feeling Krissie hasn't put out more music because a) he's too picky and ends up shelving 2/3 of what he does and b) he's such a pain in the ass to be around he gets fired or people quit before anything is finished. Life is all about compromise and I doubt anyone has ever called Kris compromising. I also have this sneaking suspicion that he can't stop looking back in anger meaning that all relationships he has (musical or other) are tainted by an expectation of rejection. A big thumbs up on FFWD as well as System 7. Then again, that was back when I was excited about Orb new releases. Now I approach the albums with a slight feeling of dread, wondering if it's going to be another boring set of beats and blips. Go dig in the fucking record bins again you bastards!

Just two cents on the replies....... I seem to remember a lot of people slagging Orblivion when it was new. It's not bad, but the songs are just two short. It should have been a double with the same songs, just longer. I love all the proper Orb records, but U.F. Orb and Pomme Fritz are my personal favorites. The bridging point between the first two era's as it were. Blue Room alone is pure collaborative genius. When I talked with LX last year, he told me that Kris was still being immature.....sadly from all the weird things Thrash has said on here, I would have to agree. I wish he was there, but if he's going to be immature about his "Orb" dealings, then I can't hope for him to return. I really love his work on the first System 7 album too. As a comp, "Okie Dokey" is alright, but it's not worth tons of repeated listens. I do hope they turn away from this low sample, harder edged stuff. LX also told me that Youth "wants to make a "real" Orb album". We'll see....... ..and finally......all this talk of collaboration, I wish Mixmaster Morris would co-write an Orb song. Skidoo

About Kris, i think, after some emailing, that he is fed up with the music industry to the extent that he does not want to be involved with any of it anymore. But.. who knows.. :-) Alex's Groovetech sessions are for sure a well kept memory. I felt realy sad when the anouncement came Groovetech had to quit. I think the main difference between "old Orb" and "new Orb" is the use of samples(loops). Listen to AHEGB (album) and you see what i mean: 99% sampled stuff. The combination of these samples contribute to an o(r)bscure mix of flavours. New albums like Cydonia, OkiDoki and on, do not have a lot samples stuff. You know, i am a positive guy. I realy like the idea that someday a new Orb album will show up that actually shows the Orb is not long gone. I think that chance is still available. I believe that "The Dream" will sound more like the old than the now Orb (at least i keep fingers crossed) I dunno who agrees with me, but i always found the Orb was entirely, fundamentaly based on reggae and dub music. I mean, Fluffy Clouds was simply (dub) reggae. My favorite Orb stuff is what I would describe as "Lush." There was drifting and fading and swirling and little bits that jumped at you ("WAKE UP!"). Ultimately it was a journey through a psychic jungle. Now that is gone, left only with half assed attempts at dance floor hits or snarky annoyances. Back in tha day a new Orb album was worth a big acid party. I can't imagine actually looking forward to tripping and listening to the new stuff. Good to see some life in the old list.
