Mooring an M15 long term in saltwater

Does anyone have information on mooring an M15 long term in seawater? Is it feasible or will it cause major damage? My boat has a lead centerboard, but iron in the keel. I have added epoxy, cloth, and gelcoat to the trunk liner-hull seam to hopefully seal it better. I suppose if I were to moor it, I would pull the centerboard to put anti-fouling inside the trunk, and on the centerboard. Sincerely, Tyler '81 M15 S/V Defiant #157

"Little Breeze" sails on...

For those who like to track various trivia in Monty-land...today I met the current owner/skipper of 'Little Breeze' (the Monty 15 that Michael Mann sailed to Hawai'i long ago). I'm over in Hawai'i briefly, in Hilo on Hawai'i Island, and was out for a sail this afternoon with some other Hilo sailing club members on another member's boat. As we were cruising around, I overheard a guy I'd just met named Andy tell someone else he had a Montgomery 15. I remembered that Little Breeze was on the island in years past, I saw her for sale on craigslist once even, so I asked him what her name was...you can guess the answer by now. He's very happy with her, though when he heard I had a 17 he did say he really really wants a 17. Standing rigging?

I'm turning into the man of 1000 questions. So I went to Defender Marine last Thursday for their sale. I ordered a couple of replacement buckles with toggle nuts to replace the backstay and headstay ones, as they don't turn well any more, and one had a bend. I received them yesterday, and I got T bolts instead of toggle nuts. Ok, so I called Johnson today to verify that they're as strong as what I had with toggle nuts. No problem there, but in conversation it came up that my standing rigging is 1/8 wire with thimbles and 2 swaged ovals on each end of each cable. Was this standard? Johnson suggested getting rid of it and in fact suggested switching it all over to machine swaged ends because mine are not suitable for standing rigging. What is the consensus here? -Gerry

Since I don't know the paint history on this boat(and some was peeling), I'm trying SmartStrip to get back to fiberglass. One application took off a green layer, blue layer, and most of red. One more thing application should clean it right up. -Gerry

Through hull holes?

As I am stripping paint off this M17, I found a couple through hull holes that have been fiberglassed over and look to be done well. They were up front, so maybe were for depth instruments in the past. In the rear, about 6" forward of the transom, there is a through hull still there. It is capped with pipe plug fittings inside. I don't like the looks of some previous fiberglass work around it, so I am going to remove it and properly repair it. But this made me curious; what would it have been used for on an M17? It's not like one needs cooling water. Do any of you have through hulls in the bottom of a small boat?

Centerboard

So we got our new to us M17 off the trailer, on to stands, and removed the centerboard. One problem we ran into was the centerboard wanted to drop right away. At first I thought the line was broke, but pulling with the winch showed me it wasn't. It appears that this splice is too long (about 8") so it binds up at the top before the centerboard is up fully. What is the normal connection there? -Gerry
