I’m not sure why I’m putting my 2¢ in but all of my experiences line up and agree with Dave. Too deep allows my boats to drift to one side or the other. They usually bump/slide back to center but not if they are too far off. Too shallow and well, the only issue is having to crank more than I want to.
Maybe the bunk on one side is following a lapstrake grove as the boat slides up and that isn’t allowing the boat to settle in the middle. That wouldn’t happen if you float the boat on further/deeper trailer.
I think it’s worth noting that floating many boats (not just M’s) onto a trailer and tightening the strap can but a huge load on the bow eye as the boat gets pulled out of the water and the bow pivots up. This all depends on many things including steepness of ramp and location of winch.
Obviously you can try out both ways and you’ll find something that works for you.

I took my M-15 out for the day today on a nice lake in Oregon. But I discovered some issues that I need help on. The biggest one was getting the boat back on the trailer. It seems that the outboard weighs the boat to the starboard where it is mounted. With that small lean to starboard, the boat would not move up into the trailer in a balanced way. That ended up making it impossible to get the boat onto the trailer with the shoal draft keel resting on the rubber runners down the middle of the trailer. Instead the boat came out of the water with the keel resting outside the center of the trailer where its supposed to rest. I got in the lake several times trying to center the boat on the trailer. Am I missing something?

I'm going to take a *rare *exception to some of Dave Scobies advice on this
subject. Getting the Trailer deeper into the water will make a *huge*
difference. I have a 1984 vintage M15, on an original Trail-Rite trailer. I
never had trouble getting the boat on squarely until last Fall. Same ramp,
where I'd put in 5 times before. It did the same thing the next two times I
used it, even when I was being careful to line the boat up. In frustration,
I backed the trailer deeper into the water, and the boat came straight onto
the trailer.
Will trunk guides solve this as well? I don't know. But I'd be willing to
bet that if you got your trailer Deeper into the water, that *would* solve
your problem. On my ramp (12.5% grade) I need to nearly wet my front tire
treads to get the boat to go onto the trailer right. I am looking to make a
trailer extension soon. Because to launch, I am burying too much of the
rear end of my car to do my launches.

Hey, what do you use for a porta potty in your M-15. The space for one is so so small that I cannot find a single porta potty that would fit in that 12” wide space.

Looking for information on the rudder control rod.
The shaft is bent on the boat I recently acquired. I was able to install the rudder but due to the bends in the rod I cannot raise the rudder.
Is this part available or do I need to have one made?
I have found an online source for C464 "Marine" brass but could use info on exact dimensions or better advice.
As always.....Thanks.
