elect. motor

I know this has been talked about before, but I just got an elect trolling motor; a cheapie with 30 lbs thrust, and used it on my Sage 17 at the Monterey race (NOT during the race!) last weekend. It did the job surprisingly well, and probably pushed the boat at 2 or 1.5 knots in no wind. I used it to get out of the marina and towards the starting line and it was perfect for that. Probably ran it about a half hour total and the when I returned I hooked it up to the charger and it was at 90%. Perfect.

john,go to "AS-IS" at the msog photo site and check out the port side for my job downhaul.At the bow I replaced the forestry thru bolt with one long enough to screw a ss female eye nut onto it.That gave me an attachment point for the downhaul block at the stemhead.Where the job halyard attaches to the jib I also use a shackle to attach the jib head to the forestry such that that shackle can slide up the forestay as the jib is raised. This shackle keeps the downhaul line from jamming as you try to lower the jib. Id be interested in expanding this thread to cover the 17 as well. Since butting her in 2013 I've gotten pretty comfortable with the old girl and would love to roof her for a spinnaker and get some chute practice in. Anyone have advice about how to rig it up? Or for that matter, chutes I might find a good fit? Based on Lyle's original sail plan, a 420 chute seems too small and everything else on the used market is too big. Hi all, I am looking for clear illustrative pix of M17s set up with lines run to cockpit. Halyards most obviously. Jib downhauls if ya got 'em. Hi, After some careful deliberation I've decided to go with a rebuild of the same setup Jerry originally built, with a new oak block. It's been hot here and I was worried about pouring all that epoxy. I also think I can see why I've had issues with this area: the holes for mounting the u bolt we're at least 1/16" too big. I've opened them up to a half inch and filled with epoxy thickened with more silica. Having trouble getting the epoxy in place before setting - it's been hot here! As for the colloidal silica, I'm speaking of West system 406, "colloidal silica" epoxy thickener. Probably synonymous.
