spar size of the M 15?

Was the length of the spars on the 15 changed at some point? I am aware that the new 15's have a longer fore stay, but I think that is because it goes to a hound on the mast rather than through the slot in the front of the mast. Thank you in advance, Bert

Sailing AZ on Friday

Shawn did you make it out yesterday? Doug Kelch and I made it out to lake Pleasant. I had a passenger Doug did not. Both mains double reefed he was able to fly one of his jibs we were main only up wind and reaching with the main and the storm jib. Doug looked good making his boat move. One of the first things I did on my M23 after bringing her back from CA was to remove the stock plastic opening ports and install new ones. I chose New Found Metals and their bronze opening ports with screens. Quite spendy, I believe I dropped about $1200 for 6 ports, and that was 10 years ago! They are awesome and add so much to the look and style of my boat. There might be photogs of the install (remember that one Bones?) on the website. One thing I forgot to do and when I decide to rebid I will fix, is filling the void between the interior and exterior pieces of fiberglass. If I do get a leek, it's going to go into the core (not good) Theo M23 Sails Increase (18 months on the hard and counting)

interior paint?

Now that the sun is coming out (OK, maybe only once a week) in Oregon, I am thinking of painting the cuddy interior my older M-15 as it is a fairly bleak fiberglass/gray/mishmash. Has anyone had good, bad, or otherwise experience or suggestions with this such as what type of paint. problems? JOHN Salem, Oregon

My advice would be to stay away from plastic. We have Gray Marine ports on Dauntless. over the years the plastic lenses have succumbed to the UV light and hazed up to the point that they are difficult to see through and now require replacement, a costly repair. Maybe that isn't an issue everywhere. I don't know. Could it be AZ's higher than normal UV and sunlight exposure? The ports were installed before we owned her so I don't know how old they are, but they were clear when we purchased her some 4.5 years ago. At this point I'll have to replace them with the same thing, but if I were to have my "druthers" I would have a set of stainless steel ports with glass lenses like Rick and Melanie installed on Raven. They are beautiful, don't require polishing and I think that they are much lighter than bronze. Of course, as always...what they heck do I know?! hahaha Just MHO! well, "douse the jib"....mmmmm...not yet......................"handle the tiller".......uh....working on it...... Now... Sitting on jib sheets everytime you need to adjust them.....GOT IT! and eating sailing gloves...NO PROBLEM! Videos - what a difference a couple years makes

used to be that if you looked for videos featuring Montgomery sailboats on Youtube, there were only a few. Nowadays, if you search you'll find videos from The San Juans, Corpus Christi, The Florida Keys, Arizona, New England, California, etc.etc.etc. If you are looking for them...different searches will provide different results. Just changing the "m" in montgomery from capital to small will get you different results sometimes. I messed around with search words and groups of search words and found the following search to provide the most montgomery videos...if you play around with it though, there are probably even more out there. "So if you are looking to veg out for a while search... "montgomery Montgomery sail" on youtube. I'm sittting here trying to decide if I should take Bosun out for a 20 knot sail singlehanded....hmmmm...that could be a handful......I'll let you know how it turned out! hahaha (or if I chickened out!) Bill, It blew 15 with occasional gusts to maybe 20. Nothing like today. Today it's forecast to blow 20-30 sustained with gusts over 35 this afternoon. Looks like a correct forecast as it's Howling out there. Bosun did great the other day being that it was just him and me and no "mamma" to show him where to sit so he was out of the way. We had a reefed main and about a blade jib that I have . He finds his way to the low side of the cockpit, lays down on the seat a leans against the cockpit side. Yes, he is wearing a life jacket and he is tethered to a pad-eye on the cockpit floor so he can't dump overboard....that would not be a good thing in that kind of wind sailing single-handed....or in any kind of wind for that matter! hahaha Sounds like you guys had fun too! Not sure if we'll get out today or not but if we do it looks like double reefed and storm jib right now! It's already consistently gusting over 20 and forecast to increase as the afternoon goes on. And..this wind gauge located at Site 6 on the island is usually a little low in north wind speeds as it is on the south side of the island. The wind has to jump up over the land and cross the island to get to it. it is usually blowing anywhere from 5-10mph harder than this gauge indicates in the North Basin of the lake. Opening ports

Gail and I were hoping that we could get some input. What company, in your opinion makes the "best" opening ports for a sailboat?
