Just an update on my plywood repair. After studying everything on the repair shelf at West Marine I finally went with West System GL/Flex Epoxy, which comes in two four-ounce squirt-tipped bottles. Very easy to work with. You can mix as much or little as you need on plastic or waxed paper, and it gives you at least 45 minutes working time (important to me, since I tend to choke under pressure). I gently eased the plies apart one by one with the tip of a screwdriver until I could just get the thin end of a toothpick in. Got as much epoxy as deep as I could in with the toothpick, then sqeezed out the excess by slowly tightening clamps buffered by wood blocks. The GL/Flex dries clear with a slight yellow tinge. Unclamped after a day or so and the corner looked like new (well, almost like new - needs some sanding). Frank, Skip, Andrei and Tod, Thanks for the useful advice and help - that's exactly what I was looking for. The tip on appearance was something I hadn't thought about, and the caution about expansion was also important since the boards are a tight fit now in the mounting slots. I'm even concerned that the extra varnish coats may be too much. Sounds as if epoxy resin is the best bet, and I'll go ahead with increased confidence (hopefully not misplaced) with the job. I'll let you know what I did wrong after I do it. By the way, I stripped the boards using heat gun and scraper (also a first for me), and can't recommend it too highly. Plywood repair?

I am refinishing the companionway boards on my M-17, and found on one corner that the plywood has delaminated back about three inches each way. The teak veneer has also come unattached in the same area. The wood doesn't seem to be rotted, and is completely dry (it's been in my basement for a while.) Does anyone have experience in repairing something like this? Can it even be done so it will last? I'm planning a lot of coats of varnish after the repair. On a website I found a suggestion that injecting resin between the plies and clamping might work. Any help in figuring out whether to repair or replace would be greatly appreciated. Hi Jim, Aside from the tremendous quality of the M-Boat models, their desirability and resale value is guaranteed. I have talked to several sailors looking for an M15 or M17 and simply cannot find a used one. That says a lot right there. I'm sure someone on this list will be more than happy to display their boat. Great South Bay video

Think Summer!!! I posted some video from the Great South Bay Long Island cruise this past August. The video doesn't do the Great South Bay justice as the sailing was so good we were rarely sailing in company or it was to windy to video. There is not a lot of actual sailing but lots of raft ups and and launching shots. Part 1 proves that you can launch an M15 by hoisting it from a bridle from the chain plates to the stern cleats.
