Tod, Thanks for the pics. Went down this am and everything was ok. No damage at all and no water in the cabin. Trevor said they had 3 foot waves in Back Creek and winds at 70 (gust) The dock were approx 18 inches under water. Some marinas did suffer damage but Spring Cove came through it fine. Lots of wood and debris in the water so there is some clean up to do, but we will be back in business next week. take care Gary

Where is balsa-core utilitzed in Montgomery boat decking? Just the housetop? The housetop and side decks? All horizontal surfaces? It'd be a real chore to get out of there if you wanted to run wires up to the masthead, etc. I thought I should have floatation when I was new to the boat, so I filled it with those styrofoam shipping peanuts, which also quiets the wire slap in the mast, and plugged the ends with a chunk of foam from one of the swim noodles the kids play with at the pools. I don't think I would worry about it now, unless the wire slap was annoying. Tod, I spoke with my marina (Spring Cove) and it appears I came through it OK. I will be going down this morning to see for myself. I heard there was a 5-8 foot surge so we were really up there. I went down on Tuesday to strip the boat, put out additional fenders and lines and clean the wet locker to insure good drainage. Some docks and boats a little further up the bay were wiped out. Also no damage or flooding at the house so I came through it quite well. Thanks for thinking about the M-boaters Gary

Anyone considered plastic lumber as an alternative to wood for trailer bunks? I'm going to have some welding on my trailer done and I want to replace the bunks while I'm at it. centerboard

Well, you will be thrilled to know that I decided not to tempt the fates. Instead of building a homemade boat lift and incurring bodily injury, I had the little 17 lifted by a pro. The centerboard is out and awaiting its fate. The trunk looks perfectly smooth and unswollen. the board on the other hand is in serious need. I got the price quote everyone is waiting for. A silicon-bronze replacement comes in at $15-1600. A "naval" bronze around $900. Hot dipped galvanizing ranges wildly. All quotes I was given are not by size but by weight of the item being galvanized, 26 to 45 cents per pound. Around eighty dollars to galvanize the board sounds good! None of the galvanizers had heard of differing galvanizing schedules or standards. They all also said that the thought that an item could be double or triple dipped was absolute bunk! Now I have to figure out if the bronze pivot and stop pins would adversly affect the galvanizing. Should the newly plated surface be painted? I think I still lean toward a glass or plastic board! Oh, the decisions one must make. Fred, I'm assuming you're talking about the new M23 Offshore Cutter. I think I speak for everyone when I say, "I'd very much like to see more of and hear more about your boat!!!"
